About The Whitewater Sportsman
Fishing Asheville, North Carolina, we offer guided fishing trips in the French Broad River Basin floating in rafts equipped with fishing-specific oar frames. Efforts are concentrated on the main French Broad River, with several tributaries providing quality options as needed. A maximum of 2 anglers and a guide go in each raft. We use classic spinning gear and techniques with artificial lures, and practice CATCH AND RELEASE fishing. The spinning gear is provided, but feel free to bring your fly rod and gear if you prefer.

We had originally contracted to spend a full day smallmouth bass fishing on the French Broad River, but due to upstream rain, the river was brown and dirty. The Pigeon River was the second choice, and we had a lovely time on a half day float trip down it with Chris Manderson of Whitewater Sportsman. The weather was beautiful, the scenery was amazing and the bass were plentiful although small in size as well as in mouth. However, it was a lot of fun, and my female partner pronouced it the "best fishing trip ever." Chris is a good guide, personable and very tolerant of inexperienced fisherwomen! Would definitely make this part of any trip to Asheville.
