Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

No matter your religious belief, this is a must see when in Ashville. The architecture and history will amaze you. I am Baptist and felt an enormous sense of awe while there. The "tour guide" was exceptionally knowledgeable. We learned a lot today. It is free, but please leave a donation. They need $15million to repair water damage and leaks. Not an easy task. No one is pressuring you for $ there, but a little tidbit I know. This is history and architecture worth saving.

Fascinating architecture, great choir, but parking can be difficult and the city really needs to do something to make the surrounding are more pleasant to compliment this great church. Inside, for me there is too much a combination of styles of furnishings. It's a classic, keep it classic.

This is a stunning over 100 year old church located in downtown Asheville. Was in town for a concert and was instantly amazed by this structure. A thing of great beauty. was closed when I was there so we walked around the exterior and marveled at its detailed construction. For those who like historic buildings and places of worship, I recommend stopping by while in the city. Great for photos!

The wonderful church reminded me of our first view of the Pantheon in Rome. Although no where as large, the architecture is very unique for a basilica in the US. The self guided tour is free and the beautiful stain glass windows and doom really worked to take me out of the world and into a more spiritual domain— really worth one’s time if they are religious and/ or enjoy unique architecture

This is a uniquely beautiful Catholic church. It has a circular domed brick ceiling rimmed by old world stained glass; the artwork is overall lavish but not Baroque. The overall effect is reverent. There's an upper parking lot smaller and more crowded than the lower parking lot, which is accessible via a steep walk. Bathrooms are outside and downstairs.

Went to Saturday Vigil Mass. Beautiful church. Stained glass, architecture, and art work were wonderful to look at. The pipe organ and organist during Mass was remarkable. The priest and other parishioners made you feel welcome. After Mass, local parishioners gave a narrated tour of the basilica, which was very good. They were informative and interactive with the guest. A nice group of Catholics and interested non-Catholics had a great time. Highly recommended.

Lovely to look at from the outside. We had not read up on this in advance and were not able to get inside to see anything, sit in a pew, look at the stained glass windows, etc. We were able to sit on the front steps to take a photo of the outside...very disappointing that it was locked and secured to all. This was a chance visit and did not work out. Planning is important, but the unexpected is always welcomed.

This church is an exciting architectural structure. It was designed by a Spanish engineer and builder whose work is well-known in New York City. He invented an arch system means of supporting structures. The church's interior is a wonderful example and you can easily see the interlocking design. I loved the stain glass story of Jesus told in windows along the perimeter of the church. We were very curious about so many things and staff was incredibly knowledgeable.

We went on a rainy day, and we weren't sure if they would allow us to come in and look around. We were surprised that the church had quite a few people in it. People were sitting in small groups and talking....we thought maybe a service had just concluded. The gentleman at the door invited us in and told us we were free to look around and take pictures. He was very nice and welcoming. The church is absolutely stunning on the inside. The architecture, the art, and the condition of the church are all amazing. I highly recommend seeing this wonderful place.

This is a beautiful historic church. Take some extra time to hear the story of its origin and to look around. the pastor is thoughtful and a good speaker, also. It has an internal dome made of bricks, cannot understand what holds it up there, its just fascinating.

Where is the best place to park when visiting the Basilica?
Written 22 March 2015
You can also park in the Rankin Street Parking Garage (1st hour free; $1/hour thereafter), which at the corner of Walnut and Rankin. You would walk up hill on Walnut, turn right at the intersection, and the Basilica is about 2 blocks away. There is on-street parking (feed the meter @ 25 cents for 12 minutes), but it is sparse. And as I am 'challenged' with parallel parking, I usually opt for the parking garages.
