This beautiful garden style cemetery encompasses 87 acres near downtown Asheville, NC overlooking the French Broad River. Among the rolling hills and gardens you can find the graves of prominent writers such as Thomas Wolfe and O. Henry, Civil War heroes, and politicians that shaped North Carolina's history. Self-guided walking tours are available at the cemetery office Monday - Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm.

I enjoy walking around here, it is very peaceful and cool to look at the headstones. Many people jog in here, so even being in as it gets dark doesn't feel uncomfortable.

We visited this cemetery to find my wife's grandfather's grave. A quick visit to the office found a nice gentleman, that gave us the location, and told us how to get there. He also pointed out several of the notables buried there...........

This was side trip for us, I was kind of uneasy (don't do cementaries) but I wasn't too creeped out, The history is unbelievable.

Our family was so excited about looking for O'Henry and Thomas Wolfe graves since we have read some of their books. We had a map ahead of our visit which made finding their graves easy since the office was closed the day we were there....More

You may come here because Thomas Wolfe and O'Henry are buried here... However, begin your tour of Riverside Cemetery at the Cemetery office and get a map that helps guide you through history. Many Civil War generals and Gov. Zeb Vance are buried here as...More

well kept; however, unable to locate Tom Wolfe's grave - no information given (although there were pictures of other famous people, like some of the confederate soldiers). The writer O'Henry was marked but not Tom Wolfe's.

This historic cemetery is such a well kept beautiful, peaceful place. If you are looking for the famous folks who rest there, their graves are well marked. You will have no trouble finding them.

After visiting the Thomas Wolfe home we felt led to see his final resting place. We stopped by the cemetery office and a nice young man patiently gave us a map and directory to famous grave sites. We also saw o Henry 's site but...More

Riverside Cemetery closes its gates at 8:00pm from April 1st until October 31st. From November 1st to March 31st, the gates close at 6:00pm. -JD
