Beacon Street is main residential but there are many historic houses and buildings giving a flavour of the lives of the settling pilgrims. Is on the way down to the main shopping areas. The Beacon Hill is probably named after the stunning Gold leafed/painted dome of the building.

If you enjoy older houses and somewhat expensive boutique stores, this might be a place for you. It reminds me of Old Town Alexandria in its' feel. Cobblestone streets and older homes is it nice to take a stroll through, and would be even a romantic stroll in the evening with the gas lights on the streets. It would probably be more beautiful in the fall with all of the trees.

Beacon Hill is a great place to explore this charming neighborhood with oodles of boutique shops and diverse restaurants. Stroll on Acorn Street with its cobblestones, rows upon rows of brick houses garnished with overflowing flower boxes.
Word to the wise - wear practical shoes as the pavement is not as flat as other neighborhoods are in the city.

Know the pics of Boston with charming red brick houses and street lamps?
Well, they're all from here - a stylish, historic and most beautiful Boston neighborhood.
We parked our car in the Boston Common garage and it took us around 2 hrs to leisurely visit this terrific area. Place not to be missed when visiting this great city.

My wife and I visited Beacon Hill for a Black History Tour while in Boston. Our National Park’s ranger was well educated on the subject and informed us on many facts about black culture life in Boston around the time of the civil war. Saw some of the early black leaders as well as site of one of the first public education schools in Boston. Thanks for letting us be a part of this informative experience.

This is one of the wealthiest and nicest parts of Boston. It has gas lit streets and brick sidewalks. I personally enjoyed walking around and appreciating the architecture. I recommend visiting this neighborhood for a nice walk.

We happened to see this area of Boston after our 2 hour Segway Tour. We HAD to go back and I'm so glad we did. It's charming and it takes you back in time. The gas lite street lamps, brick streets and just old time charm. We ate outside at Parmamount Restaurant outside and it was great. Make sure you a block away and check out Acorn St. It's up a hill and it's made of cobblestone. Sooo cute! Definitely a must to see in Boston

In my opinion, if you go to Boston and don't walk through Beacon Hill, you're really missing out. The brownstones are beautiful. Don't miss Acorn Street's cobblestones - very picturesque. We had dinner at 75 Chestnut and it was very good. Lots of history here and the Cheers bar is nearby for fans of the TV show.

Beacon Hill Hotel was incredible. The quaintness was charming and desirable. The atmosphere was exquisite and the interior design was to the nines. The service was incredible - Austin was such a joy to work with! I could not recommend this hotel enough. We will definitely return!

Perfect area to step into the past! Stroll the brick streets, admiring the beautiful architecture and gorgeous gardens. Pass by the doors where Louisa May Alcott and Robert Frost lived! Don’t miss the gold domed State House or my favorite- historic Acorn Street.

Can you get an Uber from the airport? How much is a taxi from BOS airport to downtown?
Written 4 March 2019
Sure you can get an Über. We took a cab and it was 18 USD as I recall. So an Uber is always cheaper

We have 1 hour to visit the Beacon Hill area before we head to the airport. What streets should we walk?
Written 26 December 2016
Either start or finish at The Liberty Hotel on Charles Street (at the beginning of the Longfellow Bridge, where the Charles / MGH T station is). It is a luxury hotel set in a converted jail, where many of the features have been carefully preserved. The main feature being a soaring 90foot ceiling in the Atrium and the cell catwalks and wrought-iron work from its 1850's construction. It's 3 minutes' walk from the Charles River Esplanade, and 4 minutes from Beacon Hill's boutique shops and restaurants on Charles Street. If you have time, detour up to Acorn Street for a bit of cobble-stoned history.

Boston is a very walkable city. You can either walk there and experience some of the Freedom Trail, or you can catch an uber. Depends on your level of fitness and whether you will have all your suitcases with you.

How do I get there using public transportation
Written 28 June 2015
I lived in Beacon Hill for three years! The best way to get there is to take the Red Line (going to Alewife) to Charles MGH 'T' stop. Go out of the station and walk onto Charles Street. Beacon Hill is on the left. It is an area with lots of picturesque streets leading uphill from Charles Street.
You could get off the Red Line at Park Street 'T' and walk across Boston Common to Charles Street in which case all the picturesque streets would be on your right but it is quite easy to go the wrong way across the Common!!
