Top ways to experience Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway
The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Downtown
The largest area of the city, Downtown is rich with historical and iconic sites in Boston. Stroll through one of Boston’s most famous green spaces, the Boston Public Gardens, check out and make way for duckling statues, picnic under a beautiful tree overlooking the pond, and walk over the iconic footbridge where, during summer time, you will catch a swan boat toting children and eager tourists through the pond. Have your camera ready to capture its peaceful beauty in the middle of a bustling city. Continue on through the Gardens and take in some open green space at the Boston Common, where you can spend time throwing a frisbee, sitting on a park bench, or, in the winter time, skating on the frog pond. Head north from the end of the Common to see the golden dome of the State House, and travel through government center to Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall, both a historic and popular destination worth a quick visit for a first time to Boston. Head to Long Wharf to visit the Aquarium, or catch a boat to Charlestown or even Cape Cod.

The Rose Kennedy Greenway is a gorgeous replacement to the old I-93 prior to the road being placed underground. It made for a scenic stretch to walk between my hotel in the Waterfront District to the North End where many of the best restaurants and shops are located. I went during the middle of winter, but I have to imagine that is blooms with color during the spring and summer. I wish more cities would shift toward greenways such as this in their downtowns.

This park runs for several blocks with the busy JFK Surface Road on each side. It is a wonderful place to rest after walking aroung the harbor area. There is ahuge splash pad that was especially nice in the 90 degree weather.

A great place to take a break any season of the year. There are benches, tables and chairs, and best of all glider type swings along the walkway. I spent a peaceful 1/2 hour gently swinging in the sunshine on a warm February day enjoying people watching - wonderful and free. In the past I've seen wedding parties taking photos along the Greenway.

When this reviewer first heard of the Boston "Kennedy Greenway", I was little bit skeptical, thinking it was just a bit of landscaping stuck there and there between the streets. Far from it! One day after visiting the Boston Tea Party Museum, we walked west to the Greenway (which has its southern end roughly at Dewey Square), and then followed its serpentine course as it wound its way north and west to its end just west of Hannover Street.
It seemed to this reviewer that each block of the Greenway was designed to be different from the others. One always wondered what the landscaping, and path course, and sculptures one might see after passing the next cross-street.
Notice the large swings on the sections around Hannover Street. Check out the fine views there back toward downtown. Make a slight detour south on Hannover, if there happens to be street market set up that day.
Overall, the Greenway was an attractive and pleasant stroll through the middle of very busy Boston.

The Rose Kennedy greenway is an amazing green space in the middle of Boston. It follows the street for a long ways so instead of walking on a busy street you can walk on a lovely green space with people enjoying their pets, reading, having exercise class, enjoying food trucks etc. The most pleasant big city walking I’ve ever encountered

My wife and I stopped along here on our way back to our hotel. It was a great spot to stop and sit for a little surround by at least some greenery. The swings and water fountains were nice additions. It may not have been much but it’s exactly what we needed

Always a pleasure to walk it. Always something different going on. Thanks to the folks who run it. The fountain splash pad is great too. We’re there when a local dance company performed. It was special

So wonderful that the city decided to replace a freeway with a linear park like this. Of course, it wasn't cheap (that's a whole different discussion). Amazing green space in the concrete jungle. Kids were frolicing in the spray pads. We older people enjoyed the swings near Hanover. Nice place to take a load off during touring. There is also a nice beer garden near the aquarium.

This is a lovely small garden set amongst the Harbor area. You can walk to it from the Marriott Wharf . It has a beautiful array of flowers as well as beautiful roses. Knowing the love the Kennedy family and so many shared for Mrs. Rose Kennedy, this is a very memorial to her. Very serene and beautiful.

Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy greenway is a long stretched out park in central Boston. Good chill out areas. There are chairs and swings ro rest on and fountains mainly for the birds it seems. Good stretch of greenery.

When is the sculpture available to see? Are there certain days or times? Thank you!
Written 23 June 2015
As the others have said, the sculpture, which is suspended high in the air by wires that are barely visible, can be viewed 24/7. A bright sunny day really brings out all the different shades of blues, oranges, etc. On windy days the sculpture is a truly "free spirit" dancing across the Boston skyline.
