I've done whale watching in San Diego on the big boat tour buses and on a catamaran in Hawaii, so I figured being at water level in a RIB would be interesting at least.
We didn't see any whales on my excursion, but it was...More
This was our fifth whale watching experience with Adventure R.I.B. Rides and even though it was raining for half the trip, we still had a wonderful time! The best part of the whole thing is the fact that you are in a small, rigid inflatable...More
2019-Jan - off the coast of San Diego / Coronado Island - multiple whale sightings - difference dolphin sightings
boat small enough to get close without disrupting the wildlife - 6 people + 2 crew
The entire experience was great! JoAnne (one of the owners) was so good at communicating with me and being flexible when we had to reschedule. Our captain Christine was super knowledgeable and easy to work with and made sure to keep everyone involved and interested....More
The Whale Watching with Adventure RIB rides was a really fun experience! We saw 4 whales, a pack of dolphins, a group of seals, and a lot of other interesting wildlife. To me, the highlight of the trip was actually the Captain, Liz,...More
Years ago we went whale watching in New England and watched a baby and mother play by the side of our very large boat filled with lots of people. I thought that was remarkable ... but this experience with R.I.B. Rides is on a whole...More
This was so worth the money! There were only 6 of us on the craft and we saw 3 grey whales at once! PLUS tons of dolphin! I have already referred one person to them & I would recommend it to everyone! No sea sickness,...More
We chose Adventure RIB whale watching after a recommendation from a coworker and I am so happy we did this! I did not know you could see whales in San Diego in January - but you can and we did! We also saw a pod...More
This was my second time going out with R.I.B. Because I enjoyed the first one so much. The staff and boat captain are friendly and knowledgeable and being close to the water in the inflatable boat gives a different perspective than being on a larger...More
Our family of 4 (2 teenagers) couldn't get enough. Whales, Sea lions, birds, geographical landmarks, "racing" the dolphins, submarines... the list goes on. Speeding along in a RIB boat makes the trip much more personal. The kids even drove the boat a little. The warm...More

Thank you for your question. We do typically stay close enough that you are able to see the land, but occasionally we will go further out if we need to. During the winter and spring months we are looking for Grey Whales which travel closer to shore so we will probably not go so far out. In the summer and fall months we are looking for blue whales which stay further out so during that time of year we are more likely to go far enough out that you will not see land. Fortunately, regardless of how far we are from shore you are unlikely to feel sea-sickness on the RIB boats because they are low profile and do not rock as much as the larger boats do.

Hello! July is a great time to see Blue whales, we've been sighting a lot of cow and calf sets recently. Also we could see Humpback whales, Fin whales and Minke whales. These waters are also home to different species of dolphins that like to swim next to the boat!
