We spent a few hours at South Carlsbad State Beach this afternoon. We were able to find parking right on the beach just off the road. The ocean breezes felt real good and the water was warmer than usual, and we saw lots of boogie...More
Stairs lead down to the beach from the street. It is relatively unremarkable and has none of the bells and whistles that places like Laguna Beach has. But, the sand is expansive (3 miles long) and seemed to be a favorite with surfers as the...More
If you like camping within view and earshot of a busy city boulevard with views of businesses, residences, rail lines, power poles & lines, etc, this is the vacation spot for you!! AND, you get to pay $50 a night for it! AND, your camping...More
BE WARNED: 1) The park address may take you to a different spot if you follow your GPS! 2) Check-in time is 2 p.m. FIRM -- don't even try to arrive earlier. 3) You can only enter from the north, so plan accordingly. All that...More
What a fantastic campground! We saw everything from Huge Class As to tent campers who arrived on bikes. I was worried about sound from the road running behind the campground, but it was quiet at night. There are bathrooms and showers on site, both clean...More
After spending 4 days at the beach on January, we had windy, cold weather, and beautiful sunny but still cold weather. South Carlsbad is great, but difficult to get in to, especially in the summer. Being up on the bluff gives a beautiful view of...More
Been living in Colorado for 18 years now so even our December trips require beach days. Sand between the toes and a few chilly dunks in the 60 degree water will always stimulate the senses and make you miss the ocean. This day we saw...More

Was lucky to score a double full hookup site facing the beach this past weekend. Not an easy thing to do, even in the winter. Site 220 had the most beautiful views, it was amazing. We were able to see dolphins, surfers and even a...More
A great place to set up a little area & enjoy the ocean as well as the beach. The surf provided great boarding opportunities. The beach & ocean offered a great escape from triple digit heat. The negatives were the lack of parking, sticks of...More

There is basically one campground; depends on the time of year as to what sites are open. Beach side spots are the best if you can get one. We usually reserve 6 months ahead of time to get a site in January;summers are even harder to get in, especially on a weekend. But it's one of my favorite places to camp, so it's worth the challenge!
