Best fish in San Diego at Catalina. Super fresh, excellent quality, fair prices, great offers Friday to Sunday. Excellent uni, poke, ceviche.

Fresh seafood and uni
May 2019 • Solo
Catalina offshore continues to be my go to seafood shop in San Diego. They open very early so go early to get the best choices. The staff is friendly and helpful. I find their uni great and cheap.

Uni, Sashimi and Shells
Apr 2017 • Couples
Catalina is great place for fish. It's different in a number of ways from other local fish markets. Best reason to shop here-is the turnover of product. Catalina sells to the public but also Restaurants which keeps things moving. Prices are fair-not cheap but not ridiculous either. Aside from the fresh fish you can't talk about Catalina without mentioning the Staff because that's what makes your experience. If you're lucky enough to pass through when Tommy is cooking or slicing up some fresh sashimi it's always delicious. Convenient to the beach areas OB, MB, PB and La Jolla but whether you're local or not it's certainly always worth the trip.

Best Fresh Fish Market in Town!
Jan 2017 • Family
Great place to buy the best quality fresh fish! They carry a wide variety there were 4 salmon choices at my last visit. Tried the Norwegian and loved it. Also had the New Zealand and it is rich and buttery! Great tuna options, ours was so tender! The prices are very reasonable. The staff knows their products and the cut just what you ask for. We are snowbirds who have been using this market for 2 years.

If you like fresh fish, this is the place...

Catalina Offshore used to be a "secret" spot and you could just zoom in and out in a heart beat. Not anymore. Which is ok. You get super fresh good quality fish. Nice service. Awesome suggestions on how to prepare a certain kind of fish. I'd rather wait in line to get all of that. Just got swordfish for bbq'n and it was superb! I take my kids and they get to see how the whole fish looks like and some of them are gigantic. You don't get to see that when you buy your fish at a grocery store.

A Chef's fish market
Apr 2016 • Family
Visiting San Diego for the first time. We always try to find the best source of fresh seafood as soon as we arrive in a new place. Google lead us to Catalina Offshore Products...an active wholesale fish house with a retail section open to the public. The selection was great, with many species that are not available to us in the Northeast. The young man behind the counter was knowledgeable and gave us his recommendations on fish that we had never had before. Prices were steep in my opinion...don't expect a discount just because it says wholesale on the sign. But the quality and freshness is top notch. We will return during our trip.

Fresh seafood
Feb 2016 • Solo
Catalina is no longer a secret place to buy fresh seafood. They are now a full blown regular store with a line. The good news is that the fish is still fresh, but the bad news is that it is no longer cheap. I still love their uni and their New Zealand salmon. All very good for sushi or sashimi.

Great choices of fine fish!
Dec 2015 • Solo
While I never thought of this place as a tourist attraction, I have purchased many items here in the last year. Yellow Tail collars, Salmon, Rockfish, Shrimp, and more.....all were fresh and served up with great flavor. I am heading back for a New Years eve collection of sashimi quality fish. If you have access to cook while you are here, go there to buy your fish.
Oh yeah, try the uni! Enjoy!

Fresh Fish, Lobster, Shrimp etc. Shipped
Dec 2015 • Couples
If you want something special you can't get locally then Catalina Offshore Products is a terrific choice. You want sushi-grade Scottish salmon, or Yellowtail filet? How about fresh sushi-grade ahi tuna? Choices don't stop there. There's Sashimi Grade large soft shell crabs, rock crab claws and California (live) spiny lobster.

You can get fresh swordfish steaks, Opah top loin filet, plus Chilean Seabass.

I must say I live only three hours from the Catalina facilities in San Diego. So, I get my shipments next day. However, their packaging is fantastic and keeps your order in great shape.

My personal experience:

First order was for two live spiny California lobster and a dozen Nautilus Oysters. The lobster arrived still 'kicking and wiggling" - they were fresh and live. I split them and cooked them Puerto Nuevo style (deep fried). The oysters were quite good, maybe not the best I've ever had but no complaint.

Second order consisted of sushi-grade frozen Scottish salmon and the frozen cooked butterfly shrimp tails. I used a brown sugar and soy sauce coating then grilled the salmon. I just thawed the shrimp and used a shrimp-sauce with some fresh ground garlic to dip them in.

It won't be long, I'll be ordering again. Especially the spiny lobster while in season. Can't beat the price including delivery. I have to drive 65 miles one way to Pearson's Port in Newport beach to get fresh spiny lobster.

If you haven't had Puerto Nuevo style lobster then you're missing a real treat. Split the lobster in two. Deep fry till they get get a toasty look. Serve with refried beans, Mex rice, limes, tortillas and lots of melted butter. Don't forget the Corona's.
