We spent a lovely two days driving up and down, visiting the Creole plantations. We had a spectacular Ranger- Tim who was very informative and personable. We have visitied several Antebellum homes in the BTR, NOLA and Natchez area-- but these plantations are much more interesting and once you have seen the other Greek Revivals, you have seen just about... I hate to give a poor review to an NPS site, but this one deserves nothing more. Overall, the site is moderately curated. Each structure could use more context for those on the self-guided tour, which is almost everyone since the THREE rangers can only manage one tour each day. The three rangers also have been unable to remove, remediate,... More

We make a point to stop at any NPS sites along our travel route as we can. We were a little tight one time the day we came here, which meant self-guided tour of the Oakland Plantation. The main house was being worked on, but we felt like we stepped right back in time. There was no ranger to be... More

We have visited a lot of places run by the National Parks Service. This one is well worth the visit if you can take the house tour at Oakland Plantation. When we visited in April 2016, there was only one tour at 1 pm. The house was home to seven generations. It has been left as it was when the... More

We really enjoyed our walks around the plantation grounds. We were unable to tour the houses, as one was being worked on and the other is a private residence. The staff was helpful and enthusiastic. The surrounding area is also a great place for birdwatching!

Came here during the holiday season and was given free hot chocolate and cookies! They had crafts for kids on this particular day as well. The house was still available for a free tour and the granddaughter of one of the owners gave the tour and told us about her family. The bottle garden is very neat, although it took... More

It was great and the cell phone tour is very interesting and helpful! The ranger wasn't really friendly but I didn't mind because the tour was so interesting! I would recommend it to anyone that loves history

This place is indeed beautiful, however, we expected a little bit more out of the Rangers that were there. First of all, please keep in mind that there are 2 locations. If you want to see the plantation house you need to go to a different location that that of the Overseers house. The Ranger at the Overseers house seemed... More

I've been wanting to visit Magnolia Plantation for years, but my husband never would make the drive from NOLA. A friend & I visited Shreveport and I wanted to show her a plantation since she'd never been to Louisiana and I figured this was my chance. I'm in a wheelchair and found the paths relatively easy to navigate. I appreciate... More

Great tour of the house by a very knowledgeable ranger. Very enjoyable and interesting. Good map and information and lots of authentic items from the last 200 years.the ranger made it great. Don't miss this one!
