This attraction is called Sliding House, not Sliding Rock. Sliding House Overlook is a viewpoint on paved South Rim Drive (Rt. 7) in Canyon de Chelly National Monument, about 10 miles east of the visitor center (free admission). The distant ruin that is visible across the canyon floor from here is one of the less impressive ones, but the canyon... More

This rock looks completely different when we passed it on the canyon floor. You must do both the floor and the rim drive for some amazing views!

Ground is mainly rock formations with occasional mud puddles. Gladly we found steps carved into the rock at strategic locations. If your balance or hiking ability are questionable, you might want to pass this area and go to another, more accessible, location.

View it during the South rim drive and during your floor canyon tour. I can't say enough about how brilliant these people were to build where they did and how long these homes were occupied. Don't forget those binoculars.

Multiple canyon features visible from here, couldn't really find the ruin, but the rock formations, view of the canyon bottom and split were terrific. Met some really nice people there, too!

Another beautiful point to look out upon in Canyon de Chelly. We never get tired of these canyons in the West. Just amazing.

Another of the nice South Rim overlooks that provide excellent shots of the canyon area and the cliff ruins.

You will enjoy the views of these ruins more if you have a pair of binoculars and a good camera. These ruins provide a great introduction to cliff dwelling and how much it must have cost the occupants to reside here.
