I love this walk. Give yourself a day and take your time going all the way around. Watch for high tide, though - you might not be able to leave without wet feet! Great wildlife - Monarchs on Goldenrod - lots of crabs! - and seabirds - great rocks on the beach!

We rarely encounter many people on this trail. Perhaps the word has gotten out that it is not for the casual hiker. Sandy trails, no shade, and tidal transformations can take their toll, so follow the advice of some of the other reviewers and plan accordingly. On our first visit we were caught off guard, but thankfully we were sufficiently... More

This is at least a seven mile walk if you do the entire loop. It's loose sand on the ocean side which is difficult walking. On the "gut" side it was harder land but depending on the tide it could be wet. there was a tavern at one time on the eatery peninsula. It's a lovely marsh/ocean view and you... More

I love the National Seashire hikes. I have never been able to complete this trail. I first tried in my twenties. I was an advid hiker walking three hours a day & I still had trouble. I'm a year rounder so I have many opportunities. I've grown old! It is beautiful, give it a go! Just make sure you have... More

The trail is mostly level, but many stretches have deep, loose sand that makes walking very difficult. The area is scenic and very lovely. If you are energetic, please enjoy.

The whole west side of this "trail" is walking straight on the beach. It's completely exposed to sun and wind, but does have nice views. The biting flies were really persistent, so have tons of bug spray. There were almost no markers, as well, which made it hard to tell where one could cross over to the more eastern side.... More

Nice beach hike. There is good variety and a nice change of scenery between beach and wooded areas. The hike is moderate and can vary in length.

Great trail! The trail was easy to follow and clean. The beaches were beautiful and there crabs throughout many parts of the trail. Unfortunately we didn't see any seals but the overall experience was good. We would definitely walk this trail again!

Did the entire 7 miles, great workout but exhausting, bring lots of fluids! We were the only ones early in the morning. Great bird watching and occasionally there are seals poking their heads out of the water.

Great Island is part of the National Seashore, on the Bay side of Wellfleet. At the end of Chequessett Neck road, there is public parking. On Tuesday this week (July 19), two of us walked the dune and inland trail down to Jeremy Point and back. The trail offers varied terrain -- loose sand through the Gut, firm footing through... More
