I was at Fort Macon and decided to call Cape Lookouts visitor center. I was interested in camping on the island. The lady gave me the information I needed, which was "Yes you can camp. Enjoy your time at Fort Macon and then come right over." It was that easy. Once i got there I had just missed the 12... More

Beautiful....many, many choices. Try to make reservations for ferry service in advance. This was a one day trip for myself & 3 friends....fly fishing on Shackleford Banks. Beautiful, clear water...perfect casting right across from Cape Lookout Lighthouse. Caught a variety of fish. Round trip ferry was $25 PP.....operators were right on time both ways. If you have never been, just... More

For those that enjoy beautiful scenery and a pleasant walk along the beach, this is the place to go. Ferry Ride enjoyable and convenient. Will be returning.

Beautiful place with no trash. Water is clear like the Bahamas and very clean. Great historical site with exhibits. Can only get there by boat or ferry

You can take a ferry or your own boat. We take our boat and spend the day. Great place to swim, picnic and just hang out. Lighthouse is a great backdrop for photos from your boat.

We were fortunate enough to get a cabin on Long Point on North Core Banks. Probably the greatest 3 days ever spent on vacation. Took the ferry from Atlantic. Great service! Rick & Kari were great. The cabins were merely feet from the beach. Everything in the cabin was just as advertised on the website, It was incredibly beautiful. One... More

I took the ferry from Harkers Island, stopped for a while to see the ponies on shackleford island to see the ponies and then over to Cape Lookout. I took the tour by four wheeler to see the historic town and the point. I am so glad I did. What a great place. Good beaches and just so great to... More

Arrived and purchased ferry tickets for the 15 minute boat ride to the lighthouse and beach. On the way, we slowed down to see the horses on the adjacent island: wonderful. There is very limited amenities. It is a national park: so there is a gift shop and bathrooms. The lighthouse is a easy climb up and there is a... More

Best to plan ahead for this trip - even making a reservation for the ferry to the island. That is especially true during peak season. Yes, you do need to take a ferry to get to the island. It is $16 per adult. I would recommend planning about 2 to 3 hours for a visit. If you want to climb... More
