Grand Central Terminal is the most extraordinary public space in New York...

Grand Central Terminal is the most extraordinary public space in New York City. Opened to the public in 1913, this historic train terminal is a world-famous landmark in Midtown. Its rich history is a story of immense wealth and great engineering. Grand Central is one of the busiest train stations in the world, with approximately 750,000 visitors every day. It is the home of Metro-North Railroad, a subway station, iconic restaurants, shops, and the world's most alluring Apple Store. Some of the highlights to see along your tour of Grand Central include the opal-faced clock, valued at $20 million, above the Information Booth, the Largest Tiffany Glass Clock in the World below the 48-foot, 1500-ton Transportation statue overlooking 42nd Street at Park Avenue, and the mystifying acoustics of the Whispering Gallery in front of the Oyster Bar and Restaurant. Audio and guided tours are available for those with a passion for history. More information regarding tours and ways to plan your visit can be found on the Grand Central Terminal website.

Simply amazing! We made a specific subway ride simply to see the Grand Central Terminal as we have heard so many stories and seen so many pictures that we simply had to see it for ourselves. And so glad we did. Inspiring from inside and out with phenomenal architecture and design while understanding the subway system runs throughout all of... More

Very similar to London's kings cross, a nice place to take pictures and grab a bite to eat. Easy walk from Times Square.

I cant quite comprehend just how big this place is. You get into the main foyer/ticket lobby(?) and just stand with your draw dropped for several minutes. A must see in my book for anyone visiting NYC.

I have been to the station many times and again, I feel that it is not as clean and the panhandlers are getting out of hand. I understand this is part of the New York experience, but really!

You have to say you've been! Quite a stunning plaza - but it's railway station. Not a lot else to say, busy, lots of shops, cool on a hot day, good photo opportunities on the steps.

New York City metro subway train system could be confusing but I did have great time exploring the Grand Central Terminal. It has the most expensive clock in the station - right the center and the ceiling is amazing to see.

This was quite low on our list but we booked for the Michael Jordan restaurant on our last night so thought we would visit early as we had seen it in many films . What a surprise, great building, lovely atmosphere, fantastic market and then on to a fantastic restaurant - Great night

A must see. One of my favs. The architect, the stone and colours the design, all worth a good visit. Stay and eat there too, but I would recommend any fine dining. Ridiculous wait times and the waiters expect you to tip well above average. The bakery was amazing !

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
