While I agree with many of the earlier reviews that the Museum of the City of New York is not necessarily a museum for the first-time visitor to the Big Apple, I do feel that this does not warrant a bad review. It may be located off the beaten tourist track at the far end of Museum Mile and also... More

The exhibit, New York At Its Core, is such an engaging presentation. This exhibit was filled with pictures and artifacts of times going back to the 1600's when New York was called New Amsterdam and was a Dutch colony. There was a huge screen showing parts of NYC how it looked in the 1600's with a fade in to a... More

Nice review of the development of zoning regulations. I felt I learned many interesting things. There is soft information and detailed information. Not for a quick visit, but for when feel ready to absorb information. Signage is nice and artistic, but unclear. Very hard to find stairwells, a safety problem, and a potential loss as they are truly interesting.

The museum did not really have as much on the historical aspect as one would expect with such a name. Nonetheless it was still worth a visit for some of the rare exhibits we have come across. Do visit the basement for a video presentation on the formation of NYC. this alone is well worth the trip here!

With new york such an iconic city, it was good to have a museum that gives an overall insight into its history, attainable in a few hours!. This museum is not too large for tired sightseeing legs.. But interesting and informative... I loved the room whereby you can read on and see articles relating to each decade of new yorks... More

As museums in New York City go this is small. But the exhibits are very timely and wonderfully done. Gay Gotham: Art & Underground Culture in New York is on 2 floors and very creative. The exhibit Mastering the Metropolis: New York and Zoning, 1916-2016 is a very difficult subject. I thought it was done in a way that everyone... More

Wanted to try something new. A good overview of the history of New York and the development. Lots of reading required. A little pricey for what you get.

It was great to be able to see and hear about the beginnings of on of the great cities of the world. How and why this city developed into what it is today is fascinating. Displays are well designed and accessible. I would recommend it to all ages.

We went with our family for the first time and didn't really know what to expect. What we found was a very affordable outing which was really fun and interesting for 1-2 hours. The 2 main exhibits deal with the history of NYC and ideas for sustainable development in the next decades. Both were really well done and interactive. Even... More
