Great experience when in nyc. Definitely not as busy or touristy as the Brooklyn bridge, but it’s a nice enjoyable walk. Be prepared; however for the pretty much constant noise of the trains passing.

We had a wander down the river in the dark and sat on the swings on Pier 35 which give great views of the Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges. There was a lot of building work going on by the river but you could still access some of the river path. Lovely all lit up at night and always busy with traffic!

I read a review saying that you should walk over the Manhattan Bridge to Brooklyn and then back to Manhattan via the Brooklyn bridge. So glad we did. There are not many tourists on the Manhattan bridge, so you get amazing photos of the Brooklyn bridge and manhattan city skyline . Then you spend time wandering through the streets and shops of DUMBO before crossing over the Brooklyn Bridge. Brooklyn bridge is amazing, but full of tourists, canvassers and wannabe influencers. Keep walking for 10 minutes and then enjoy a feed in Little Italy!!

I was surprised and impressed to discover that there are different ways to cross the Manhattan Bridge from Brooklyn to Manhattan and back.

Initially I was in the park in Brooklyn and I could hear a loud rumbling and I discovered that the subway runs over the bridge. I was really pleased to see that the crossing had integrated transport. Probably the most common way of crossing the bridge is to drive but there are also separate areas for pedestrians and cyclists to cross over.

Later I took the opportunity to ride the subway over the bridge. There are four lines crossing the bridge for slow and express trains to cross at the same time.

I love that this bridge has so many different modes of transport using it.

Even though it is often mistaken for the Brooklyn Bridge, this bridge is actually the one in Once Upon a Time in America. It is featured in other movies, but that movie poster is the most famous. That shot is beautiful and captures the bridge in a romantic sort of way.

However, it is also an important bridge as it shares the load with Brooklyn and Williamsburg. Another important factor is that this is a rail bridge allowing the trains to cross boroughs.

I personally really like it and think it is just as important as the Brooklyn Bridge.

Of the five bridges I walked during my visit in NYC, the Manhattan bridge was the worst.

On the plus side, you will have peek-a-boot views of the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan skylines. Unlike the Brooklyn Bridge, you won't have to navigate the gauntlet of vendors selling NYC merch or offering the use of their rotating cameras. It's also free to walk.

Negatives are plenty:
The pedestrian walkway is narrower and hemmed in on the north (uptown side) by multiple trains. The south view encumbered by fence or the bridge structure. You can poke a camera between railings to snap a beautiful photo, though.

You cannot easily see the bridge towers from the bridge

Wait, did he say 'multiple trains?' Yes, I did. Every few minutes, you'll be subjected to the cacophony of random clanking and metal on metal action. Hope you brought earplugs!

Graffiti everywhere, and it's mostly tagging, not the artistic mural types.

This bridge maybe not as iconic as Brooklyn bridge but its a very important bridge as trains go on this bridge and cars and people and cyclists so its used buy nearly every bit transportation. I walked on this bridge its far less busy the Brooklyn bridge but still has great views and is well worth walking over it.

This long and important bridge has its own grace. We could see it out the window of the apartment where we stayed and loved the view. It carries cars, subway trains and pedestrians between Brooklyn and the Lower East Side. Also creates the space for the classic Dumbo area.
