Still offering the steam and sweat since 1892, these health spas are alive and well in New York where people get stretched, steamed and pounded as they relax and renew themselves.

A spa it is not, but go with an open mind and with the flow and you will come out totally relaxed. The Russian room is by far the hottest place I have ever been in on this planet and I have been in a lot of hot saunas. Did not do the Platzka beating because it would have taken... More

I've only been there a few times and each time has been different. I went on men-s only days which varied. The last time I was there was the worst. There was a lot of open sexual activity. There were people opening giving HJs and once I noticed an HJ in progress next to me that was about to turn... More

What used to be a no frills relaxing "trip back in time", has turned into a filthy, broken down, poorly run, money grubbing establishment. Probably because the two owners have been feuding for years and no one wants to invest a dime in keeping the place up. it was rated a "B" by the New York Department of Health and... More

I always wanted to come to this place and I finally did it. This place is not a luxurious spa. But it has a fantastic steam and turkish bath rooms. It is very authentic and non pretentious. Staff was very friendly and the massage guy was fenomenal! I would definitely visit this place again. Bring your own towel, shorts and... More

While I was traveling through NY City I was out one day and hit with awful weather - rain, winds, freezing - the lot. The Airbnb I was staying in was just around the corner from this place, so as I walked home to try and defrost I walked past and thought "why not" Having never been to anything like... More

This place is amazing. If you are looking for spotless 5 star spa's then forgot it and go to your pretentious hotel. This place feels so authentic and is a wonderful experience. Don't be put off by the dodgy looking cafe and the basic chasing facilities. The Russian room was our favourite; we recommend the oak leaf treatment. There is... More

I really enjoyed my experience here. I was glad that two of my party had been before so they could show me the ropes. They bought salt and mud, we all bought water. They give you shorts and robes if you want them. None of us had a treatment, but the treatment that they do in the main and hottest... More

This bath is an interesting place, because you can meet people from the Slavic countries, enjoy the sauna and have some meals or sandwiches. Or also be scrubbed, have a massage, a hot sauna and a freezing dive at the pool. Sacha, an Ukrainian who works there is very friendly. But don't expect a luxurious place, and the entrance is... I love to spa. I heard about this place and we decided to go and enjoy a day at the spa and get a massage. They try hard to up sell everything. I had an interesting massage which ended with being hit by branches. One sauna was so hot, I envied the guys who spend a long time in there.... More

Nothing fancy at all, a small buildong ineast village, with a big common steam room, small massage area and a cold small pool. Got the aucalyptus massage, which is not really relaxing massage...the wash and hit you softly with the aucalyptus branch in the main steam roon and then make you jump inthe freezing pool.....not relaxing at all but fun....

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
