The neighbourhoods and its architecture are not my style, it's a quite atmoshphere not surrounding by big buildings and people but didn't like it. There's nothing much to visit, except the Gospel. I strongly recommend to book a Gospel, because it's so popular that it's surrounding by many people and tourists, you could wait for 45min and can't enter in... More

We spent 3 nights in Harlem (in a vacation rental apartment) last November just after Thanksgiving. As a first trip to NYC overall, we had read about the quality of Harlem and we we pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere there. A great mix of old & new influences, rich & not so rich population, yet not intimidating, overwhelming or over-crowded... More

Interesting to learn how Harlem was settled. Has developed into a "safer" neighbourhood. Absolutely worth a visit.

Everything is basically within walking distance. So many restaurants to choose from! We were able to access resources and services quickly and experienced a good community vibe. From the barber shop (Big Russ) to restaurants great people and service. Lots of history and architecture. More frequent garbage pick up is needed. Harlem has a beautiful history that I learnt to... Harlem is very interesting only few miles north to Central Park. Best way to go there is take a subway to 125 th street. There is lot of shops, music clubs and local life.

Harlem is a neighborhood always worth a visit. One can see that New York is alive. During the years there are a lot of changes from a rather dangerous neighborhood to an attractive village to live.

I found it interesting to see Harlem and the people living there friendly also unlike the rest of Manhattan it didn't feel like their only mission was to separate you from your all money. A lot of places in the rest of Manhattan grossly overprice their goods and services. I know tipping is important in the U S but more... More

It is easy to make a visit in Harlem when in NY. Still a special atmosphere, but no longer so special. Every part of NY is its own. Everyone worth a visit

Neighbourhood Profile
Harlem
As a hub of African American culture, Harlem has played a vital role in the history of New York City. Today, the neighbourhood is as vibrant as ever as new businesses and developments go up next to local institutions. The heart of the neighbourhood is bustling 125th Street, where street vendors and historic landmarks like the Apollo Theater mingle with big-name stores. Turn down almost any corner, and you’ll discover some of the most beautiful blocks in the city, filled with handsome brownstones, soul food restaurants, corner shops, and scenic parks.
