We visited New York in October to get married and of course just see what there is to see! All the shops around Manhattan are 7-elevens and pharmacy type shops with really expensive candy. After much frantic googling - I found Economy Candy and the bus I needed to get it! It's in a really scummy part of town but... More

This is a great old time candy store with an unbeatable candy selection. They have my favorite candy and also a ton of candy I have not seen since I was a child. Their prices are great and with the unbeatable selection it makes for a great stop for a nostalgic sugar fix. The family that owns the store is... More

I came in to buy bulk candy for my son's first birthday party. Boy, did I succeed! Maria was extremely helpful in having me pick out the perfect pieces. Great customer service, very knowledgeable, and friendly! I highly recommend this spot for any new or "old-time" candy :-)

I have been a joyful customer of a Economy Candy since the 1950's. I am a world traveler and there is no other candy store comparable in any other country. They're products are the best and the rarest. The help and the owners are all a delight. Their halvah is better tha halvah in Israel Go to a Economy Candy.... More

I have seen Economy Candy on TV in the UK, and having three children thought we would pay a visit when in the area (we walked from Chinatown, but the Tenement Museum is close by as well). The store does exactly what you would expect - stocking every imaginable American candy at reasonable prices. With $10 a head to play... More

Then this is the place to be. Never have I seen such a vast array or variety of candy from all across the globe. I'm sure they had everything I'd ever want but unfortunately baggage allowance back to the UK stopped me from buying it all. Loved this store.

Everyone in Manhattan always talks about Dylans candy, but this tops it by far. Lined from floor to ceiling with candy from all over the world, I found all the German candy I miss from Europe. There's tons of of candy and everything you could dream for! You don't feel run over by tourists, this place has great chocolate and... More

This place is amazing! All the "back in the day" candy you can think of! Maria was so helpful. She helped me choose about 3 lbs of candy for my 13 hour flight the following morning to Dubai. Needless to say, my friends and I were NOT bored! I had the entire plane asking me for a pixie stick! Ha!... More

Staying in Lower East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Lower East Side
Straddling the bridge between New York’s thriving immigrant past and its modern transformation into a beacon of global art and culture, the Lower East Side is one of the most dynamic neighbourhoods in the city. The blocks of tenements that represented the promise and blight of the Lower East Side immigrant experience now command top dollar for new residents. Right next to old-world delis, 24-hour bodegas, and the garment shops of Orchard Street, you’ll find hip clubs, fashionable bistros, and luxury hotels beckoning at all hours of the evening. If you love nightlife and live music, it’s hard to beat the scene here.
