Top ways to experience Rockefeller Plaza Manhattan New York City and nearby attractions

The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.

Rockefeller Plaza is popular and crowded. It is centrally located and a very short walk from Time Square and fifth Avenue. There are several good restaurants and many places where you can grab a sandwich or coffee and sit at one of the large round outdoor tables. I went there a few times during my visit.

This plaza is a lovely place that is peaceful and pretty. It would be ideal to sit here with a Starbucks or a sandwich. The fountain is also a great spot to have photos in front of.

So terribly overcrowded this holiday season. I was stuck in a huge uncontrolled crowd after watching the sacks light show. As soon as it ended, everyone pushed up against me and pinned me to the fence. They only had a very small opening in the fence leading to the cross walk, so the crowd was not moving at all. Myself and a few other women in line, ended up getting felt up by some guy with his hands and he rubbed up his front on us trying to “get by”. A man in the crowd yelled at them and they got away from us and moved to a different side. The whole time, there was a whole fleet of cops watching this crowd unable to move and they did nothing. If the widened the fence a small bit it seriously would have made all the difference. I’m sure little kids got hurt this year getting pushed up on, as it was absolutely ridiculous. It took us over 15 minutes to walk out of the small area. It was extremely unsafe and uncontrolled!

Rockefeller Plaza is close to Times Square and in the heart of the entertainment area of Manhattan. I had never realised it was a thing until I had seen the TV show 30 Rock.

I visited in October 2023 and the area was buzzing with people. There were plenty of tourists like me about and there were also people going about their business.

It's a nice, paved area and plenty of places to sit and relax after walking around the city that never sleeps.

Very pretty with the Christmas lights and ice rink but very busy so feels a little intimidating but definitely worth it.

Vibrant area surrounding Rockefeller Center. The most magical time to visit is during the winter months when the Christmas Tree is on display and the skating rink is open.

Missed the annual turning on of the lights of the tree by a couple of days, but still a vibrant area, with the iceskating rink and great shops nearby and a near RadioCity. This area is NY for me

Rockefeller Plaza has so many different aspects and angles to it. Covers multiple blocks and of course the scented piece is the ice rink.

I don't understand how this spot has so few reviews. The Rockefeller Plaza is one of the most well-known locations in all of NYC. It is featured on literally every episode of the Today Show, is home to the Christmas Tree, and is a location dropping shot for so many movies and show in NYC.

The plaza itself is also quite nice, well organized, and has plenty to do. There are a plethora of restaurants, the skating rinks, tours for Rockefeller and NBC, and shops of all kinds. Besides Times Square, I would consider this the second tourist hub of NYC.

I personally enjoy this spot because it is not as glitzy and still maintains some of the intentions of the Rockefeller motif.

The Rockefeller Plaza is a massive series of buildings and activities in Mid-Town Manhattan. It’s a great hive of activity.
