- Deborah F16 contributionsGo see itIt's an old story. Boy meets girl. Boy and girl fall in love. Then there's a challenge to that love. But this musical is set in ancient times when immortals and some mortals could transit between earth and hell. It's a fabulous musical. Go see it.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 11 October 2023
- BalthazarRaleigh, North Carolina86 contributionsAmazing!!Awesome show. I saw the show when it first came out with the original cast years ago. This is my second time and it was fantastic. 2 hours and 50 minutes that will go by in a breeze. Great performances by the cast, amazing musicians, beautiful venue. One of the best shows in Broadway hands down. Absolutely worth it!Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 October 2023
- MichaelKonstanz, Germany60 contributionsMixed performance, story with a forced "happy" endIt was an entertaining afternoon but the performance had ups and downs - some of the singers are really good, others only so-so and in our setting Hades was clearly struggling. I also minded the desperate attempt to give a happy ending to a story with, well: no happy end ("we'll keep telling the story..."). And frankly, for that price I'd at least like to be able to sit without feeling like my kneecaps will be gone by the end like in economy minus of a cheap airline.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 1 November 2023
- Suzanne kPrinceton Junction, New Jersey44 contributionsAn engaging tale well choreographed, with excellent use of stage / scenery and catchy songsLoved hadestown- the story is engaging and well told, the singing and choreography was outstanding. The teenagers loved it! Comfort tip / It was cold in the theater (we were on the ground floor) so bring something warm to wear! Oh and water costs $6 so maybe drink some in the line beforehand!Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 27 December 2023
- EddieBaltimore, Maryland167 contributionsGreat ExperienceI went with my wife to Hadestown in FL and it was fantastic. It was really good, and we really recommend the show. Please note that it is very “lore” heavy, so if you don’t want to follow a story, maybe this show is not for you.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 January 2024
- ERFSU82Wellington, Florida2,004 contributionsOutstanding show!We first saw Hadestown in September 2023 and enjoyed it so much that we went again on our most recent trip to NYC. The show is fantastic, with great music, a great cast, and a great set. We would see it again.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 14 January 2024
- Tony V2 contributionsSpecialI saw this at the Lyric Theater in London. One of the most heart-felt, well-done shows I’ve ever seen. In particular, the actor playing Hermes absolutely brought the show to life. And then talk about sticking the landing, the ending was brilliant. I could not recommend this more strongly.Visited March 2024Travelled soloWritten 17 March 2024
- sidhusarabjeetGreater London, United Kingdom39 contributionsIs this a show about Vampires and werewolves? The production, music, the stage, and the acting were all good. However the the story was disjointed from this, and I struggled to understand what on Earth was going on. The show came together in the second half. In all honesto, if you want to enjoy the music, costumes, and the scenic atolmosphere, this is the ahow for you. The storyline just did not for with all the above. When I started watching, I thought that I was watching something about vampires and werewolves in New Orleans and was waiting for it to kick off with some witches. I think if they had written this for vampires and werewolves, the whole production would not be out of place.Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 5 May 2024
- Jenny DNorwich, United Kingdom13 contributionsThis needs to be shouted about from the rooftops. Brilliant! Why is this musical not being shouted about from the rooftops? Great music, great acting, great emotions, great set. What more can you ask for? I’ve seen lots of musicals and believe me, this is one of the best. Sadly, I saw no advertising for it on the tube stations or anywhere else. Why not? It so deserves every award.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 May 2024
- lovestravel365Costa Rica115 contributionsAmazing performances and production!Just wow! We absolutely loved this production. Jordan Fisher, Isa Briones, and Phillip Boykin did not disappoint. The music is stellar, and it is lovely to have the musicians on stage and actually part of the show. We had front row seats, and it was all just spectacular. After the show a few cast members came outside and signed autographs and chatted with the guests. They were gracious as they patiently got to everyone. This production and the performers were just amazing! Go. See. It!Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 14 June 2024

A musical performance that wowed me to my core, Hadestown brings together talented actors and musicians in addition to high-quality sets and lighting to form a masterful recreation of the Greek tragedy. Its musical score left me enchanted and wishing the performance had gone on for another hour. Get your tickets as soon as possible and find out how the world could be.

Wow. Everything about this show is fantastic. Let’s start with the book.
The script itself is brilliant. It takes the story fo Orpheus and Eurydice and makes it completely relevant to our time. I never would have guessed that The Wall song was written before the Trump era. It’s oozing with social relevance.
The costuming and scenery were fantastic. The color story was perfect. Every detail was considered.
The lighting was masterful. It helped the draw the audience into the action, at times in intentionally uncomfortable ways.
The actors gave everything. They were all terrific but getting to see Andre De Shields in a relatively small theater was a special treat. The acting, singing, and dancing were all a treat.
See this show. And be prepared to cry. Even if you know the stories and you know what’s coming. And that’s part of the beauty of this show. If you know the mythology you know the stories already. And it will still draw you in.

I'm a huge broadway fan and my two favorite productions are Wicked and Hamilton, if you think those are incredible performances and are expecting the same of Hadestown, you will be sorely dissapointed. Hadestown is humorless and uninspiring, with gaping plot holes and no real emotional investment in characters. The music is fun at times, but not enough to make up for constant, boring repetition of themes, long, drawn out silences that do not evoke a greater investment in the interactions, and a set that basically never changes and never feels like the characters go anywhere. Persephone's entire performance is to play drunk. Orpheus' voice is so weak that we thought he had injured it in the last performance (apparently it's always that weak and screechy) The whole thing just felt like small town regional theater, not browadway, not professionally written. How is the principal theme "la la la la laaaa" are you kidding me, that's the best they could come up with for a "song to change the world"? which Orpheus is writing for half the performance?
This is the most overrated musical of all time.

Just a heads up, if you are into upbeat shows, this isn’t for you. You should also read up the myth before because you’ll be confused. Overall the show was amazing! I personally didn’t find it hard to follow and I thought Orpheus was outstanding! I’ve seen a lot of bad things about him so I was iffy on seeing the show but I thought he was great. The chemistry between the characters was amazing! And I love the diversity of voices, you don’t really get alto-dominated shows anymore and they have a true bass! Hades voice gave me chills the moment he sang. The set is also very different. Looking at the pictures I was underwhelmed but seeing it in action is amazing. Probably my favorite set after watching the show. If you want to watch the show, you need a lot of imagination because I think that’s the purpose of the minimalist set. It’s up for your interpretation. And if you don’t really like that don’t watch the show. But for people who like deep thinking, I highly suggest this show. One of the best I’ve seen and I’ve seen 100+ shows

I went to Hadestown expecting a good show but was floored by it's brilliant score and fantastic cast. I saw original productions of Evita, Sweeney Todd and Le Miserables and I consider Hadestown to be one of the top theatrical experiences of my life. The years of work on the music are evident in the poetry and complexity of the score and I can't say enough about the singers. I live in Oregon but I'm already figuring out how to get back to NY and see Hadestown again soon.

Patrick Page is fantastic. The whole cast is great, and Eva Noblezada magnetic, your eyes follow her the whole time she is on stage. The live rendition of Why We Build the Wall feels incredibly more powerful than the studio version, feeling it in your body matters

While the actors executed well and the set was creative, I think the story line and music is lacking for Hadestown. I always enjoy going to the theater for the experience I have in the moment and for how I carry it with me when I leave. I found my mind wandering during the performance; the story just wasn’t pulling me in. All that say, I am still happy I saw the show because it received a lot of accolades. Just wasn’t my “cup of tea”.

What a gorgeous adaptation of the classic Greek myth. Every part of this was just brilliant, from the acting, the songs, the choreography, the set design, to the costumes and lighting. Every aspect of this play is thoughtfully put together but doesn’t come off as polished or inauthentic. What you get is a wild mix of big, beautifully quirky and flawed characters with jazz infused, rowdy and infinitely catchy melodies. Music has the power to unite or divide, to raise up or tear down, and both aspects are seamlessly played out here. While most know the myth (hint: it’s a Greek tragedy), knowing what was coming and seeing it happen was crushing, but somehow Anaïs Mitchell manages to create a sense of hope and renewal out of heartbreak and loss. Just amazing. Can’t recommend this highly enough, and can’t wait to see it again.

This was a fabulous show telling the story of Orpheus and Eurydice and also Hades and Persephone. It was intense and quite dramatic. This isn't one of those feel good, toe tapping shows, but it was soooo good! I would definitely see it again if I could afford it. It was well worth the price.

I think the talented cast did their best given the boring script and mediocre music. Having been trapped in New York for the past few months, I've sampled a broad number of plays and musicals that Broadway has to offer, and this is the only one I've had trouble staying awake for.
There were definitely a few good moments (Hades voice was beautiful, the lighting work was excellent, the 'reset', etc.), but the music was overall lackluster. This was the first musical in a long-while that I cannot hum a single song to after leaving the show (ok, maybe also David Byrne's American Utopia, but that's different).
Also disagree with people praising the 'modern retelling' concept. Felt about as lazy as a re-telling of Romeo and Juliet in gangland Chicago.
Again, praise to the cast. Credit where credit is due - they were good. But given the music is supposed to be the soul of a musical, I cannot give this a good review.
