From its inception, Macy's Herald Square was a store unlike any other. Over the past 150 years, it has become a true New York City icon. Built in 1902, Macy's Herald Square was the first building to have the modern-day escalator, and it has continued to be a trendsetter. Today, "America's Largest Department Store" covers an entire city block with 11 levels of the latest fashions for you and your home. Macy's offers a full-service Visitor Center on the Mezzanine Level, plus restaurants throughout the store and exciting events almost every day.

We visit Macy's twice a year when in Manhattan and the store is great but we have noticed increasingly rude staff and a lack of customer service. On the positive side, the store is great for clothes with a massive selection, especially for men. The sales at Christmas are really good value. However, the negative is the staff. Rude, non... My friend and i went to New York for a long weekend to celebrate our birthdays. Neither of us had been to New York before, we thought we would look round Macys which was outstanding or so we thought until we decided to stop for coffee and cake in Big Piano food court. As we were sitting enjoying a chat... More

I love going to this store because it has everything under 1 roof that you need. It has high end stores like Burberry, Louis Vuitton, etc. It even has an Apple Store!!! This is a must visit when in NYC. You have to visit this store. In one half or full day, you can shop, eat and explore all while... More

What a department store.... 8 floors and every item you could think of is in here.. Santa and the elves were on the top floor when we visited and it was rammed full of people... The store is beautifully decorated and all the staff were friendly and helpful.

This was truly the most amazing Macy's we have ever been to. There was something for everyone. The staff were outstanding, friendly and very personable. Not just in the Coach department but in every area we were in. But the staff and manager in Coach were the bomb. The manager and I had a conversation about my favourite bag (... More

Macy's Herald Square is fantastic! Whether I'm just passing through en route somewhere else OR am a serious shopper for the day, the experience is always amazing. Don't be turned off by the crowds soon the first floor, though I will admit no matter how many times I visit the crowds are part of the experience for me. If you... More

Macy's has always been a places I've wanted to visit when I got the chance to visit New York, sadly it was a let down. I didn't think the store had a nice feel about it, I felt it was dated and poorly organised. Staff were very unhelpful and not welcoming at all, very disappointed.

Went to see Santa at Macy's which was fabulous. I'd recommend checking in online and by-passing the long wait time. The elevators take forever to come and are packed full - exceeding weight & people capacity. It is next to impossible to get on with a child and stroller!!. I did not feel safe in their elevators.

We were here in December during the 'friends and family' promotion. The bargains were unbelievable. If you can't find what you want in Macy's - it doesn't exist. If you are shopping in New York -= you must visit Macy's

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
