The church prides itself as being progressive and inclusive, one of the few churches in the city actively supporting LGBT causes. The church exterior catches the eye with its stunning architecture, and the grand interior is just as stunning. There is a small gift shop at the ground level. Upper levels are not accessible when I visited.

If you're up on the upper West Side visiting Columbia, Barnard, and Grant's Tomb, make sure that you include a visit to Riverside Church. This place is unbelievable. The architecture is, to me, far more impressive than St. Patrick's. Can you imagine what a bonus it would be to have John D. Rockefeller Jr. as the chairman of your church--never... More

The building is open 24/7 I attended the 10:45 am Sunday service. The service seems interdenominational , beautiful organist, hymns, solos afterwards the head pastor invites attendees to 15 Q&A upfront concerning the sermon and everyone else invited to open coffee house. Anyone interested in free tour goes upstairs to first balcony. My tour guide was warm, knowledgeable, humorous and... More

The architecture and stained glass is impressive. Worth a visit if you're in upper west side. No fees to pop in and look around or check website for information about tours. There's a historical connection between this church and Cathedral of St. John the Divine which is close by in Amsterdam.

The church is modeled after the 13th century Chartres Gothic church in France and is magnificent whether looking at it from the outside or venturing inside. The church is emmense and covers two city blocks. It has hosted such dignitaries as Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandella. There are free tours after services on Sunday and during the week by... John D. Rockefeller Jr. spared no expense when having the historic Riverside Church built. The workers came from Europe. All the woodwork and furniture was built onsite. The main windows were crafted by Tiffany. The artwork and statuary by famous artists. When the church first opened you had to wait in line and get tickets to get in on a... More

Riverside Church is a historic New York Church with a long history of speaking out for justice and human rights. The congregation is very mixed and very interesting: Harlem, Columbia University and Union Theological Seminary are all just across the street so the community here is diverse and sharp. My favorite thing about Riverside Church is the diversity of its congregation:... More

This was a comfort stop on the Grayline Manhattan tour but the church merited a stop in it's own right. Some of the windows were extremely beautiful stained glass and the church's link to both Rockefeller and Martin Luther King made up just some of it's very interesting history. It's size and design look more like those of a cathedral... More

This church has very beautiful stained glass windows and architecture. It is full of history, a number of important people have spoke inside this church. Martin Luther King spoke out against the Vietnam war, Rev Jesse Jackson gave Jackie Robinson's eulogy, Bill Clinton, Nelson Mandela, Cesar Chavez, Fidel Castro and many others have spoke in this church. The church is... More
