10 year old daughter and I went ice skating for first time. Good value considering there is no time limit. If you are planning on skating for 20 minutes, not so much. View is amazing. Ice is great and resurfaced often. Good mix of locals which was important to me, as it usually means a place is pretty legit. We went when it opened at 10 and basically there was just a handful of other people there. Popular music played over the speakers. Did a lot in NYC but this may have been the highlight. Skip the crowds at Rockefeller and come here. Get there when it opens- beat the crowds.

We were excited to find the rink in Central Park. My daughters love ice skating and opportunities to do so are few and far between for Texans. It is much cheaper than skating at Rockefeller Plaza, so that is a plus. The rink also seemed larger than Rockefellers. However, we were surprised and annoyed that there was a charge to watch our own kids skating. There's no way we could've just left them there, so felt like we had no choice but to pay the fee, but it's pretty ridiculous.

I have always wanted to Ice Skate in Central Park and I finally had a chance to do so with my wife! During our annual NYC Xmas trip we skated for the first time in Central Park. Something I will never forget!!
Things you need to know. Bring cash, they do not accept credit cards. There is an ATM machine inside the door which is a little slow. The machine also has a fee of $3.25 per withdrawal. It costs $18.00 to skate. It costs an additional $7.35 for ice skate rentals. It also costs another $6 for a locker plus a deposit.
No issue with the amount of time you skate while you are there. The day we went was in the 50’s and sunny. It was perfect!

With great anticipation, our family approached the apparently magical skating rink at Central Park. Only upon getting closer, do the obvious deficiencies begin to become apparent. The first deficiency came at the ticket booth. Everyone must pay even if only a few skate. There is an observer fee of $5.00 per person. It only made sense when we saw the name "Trump" plastered everywhere. The man is truly in love with his name. It is above the ticket booths, it is above the concession stand, it is all around the rink itself, it is on the Zamboni... you get the picture. The place is quite run down and dingy. The carpeting, the seats, the tables outside. The $5.00 gets you a seat at a picnic style table which is so rickety and unbalanced that it threatens to fall apart every time someone sits or gets up. The ice itself is big, but not well maintained. The ruts are everywhere, even after the Zamboni does its magic. It is an experience to be had but only the first time. The next time will be at the Rockefeller Center.

Went ice skating here with my family (two kids under 12) an hour before closing because they wanted to do it and no better place than Central Park. My wife and I are moderate skaters and the kids are beginners. On the ice there must have been 15 staff members in green "Staff" jackets all males and in their late teens to early 20's. They did nothing to enhance the experience on the ice and were actually dangerous. They would race around in small groups using the patrons as obstacles and made the situation very dangerous for the younger kids. They were constantly testing their skating skills and challenging their peers to best each other. Several times I witnessed both staff and managers nearly hit the skaters on purpose causing the skaters to fall or seek safety along the rink wall. They acted as if the rink was theirs and we were intruders.
The staff and managers were solely focused on impressing teenage girls and getting phone numbers. If you accidentally got in their way, you or your young child might get hurt.

Donald Trump should be ashamed of himself for the way his Wollman rink is being run. The Wollman family would be disgraced by his ripe off business tactics. We were on vacation in NYC from Canada and wanted to enjoy a sunny day in Central Park on the famous Wollman rink. We were appalled by the $5 spectator fee and $3.25 lock loan fee plus I had to exchange my skates twice because the first two pairs were falling apart. We had to stop skating after 30 minutes and stand on the ice while the staff read out the RULES to their customers. We felt like we were treated like children. A very unpleasant experience. Wollman rink was the only bad memory from our wonderful trip to the greatest city in the world. Rockefeller was even cheaper than this dump!

I was so excited to go ice skating in central park even though I have never been skating before. I took my eight yr old daughter who was equally excited. When we got there the price was high so you would expect good service right!! no.... we got in and I was greeted by a man who told me to go over to the other side of the room to get my skates. I could not quite understand him so I asked again and he repeated, as I was walking away I believe he was imitating my English accent to his friends who were stood with him. I carried on putting my skates on in an overcrowded dirty room and went to get a locker key from a girl who had no manners, no please or thank you. It wasn't a nice experience,

Lower any expectations you have. We paid $104 to skate!! For that price ($27 ea) you'd expect great treatment and great skates! I went through 4 pair of skates ( blade not even centered on bottom of skates) so plan to look like a beginner even if you have skated for 30 years- your feet will hurt and the skates/blades are worthless. Then, pay MORE money to lock up your stuff- no purses on rink so don't bring valuables.... Once on rink- don't skate backwards! One of the military skate guards will immediately tell at you...after all that wonderful fun don't expect them to keep their schedule- they close 10 min early and yell at you to leave the rink. We wanted a pic and the rude military guard actually stepped in between is and the camera and demanded that we leave NOW. We stated that we still had 10 min and he stared us down and yelled at us. How's that for service when you have paid an arm and a leg to be there?? And it doesn't end there!!! Once inside they yell loud at everyone to get their skates up to the counter!!! This place was a total and complete disappointment and rip off...

I did not like it here at all. The only reason I went is because it is the famous rink in all the movies and has the pretty skyline in the background, but it was not worth it. I would have rather went to a less crowded, less known rink because I was on a budget, not planning on spending that much money and like to try new, cool places. It was $22.50 per adult if you needed skates. Then locks for lockers where $10 if you didn't bring your own. (But you did get $6 back if you returned it.) It was super crowded (but I did go on New Years Eve). The skates were in the most terrible condition I have ever seen rentals in. I couldn't even move in them. The ice keep being cleaned, but not very good. Combined with the horrible ice conditions and horrible ice skates, I couldn't even move! I'm not terrible at ice skating, but I had to hold on to someone else the entire time so I would actually move. The center was blocked off for lessons. The rink was triangular shaped, never seen that before in my life, so weird! There were referees on the ice that yelled at you for everything. Also, the rink was owned by Trump. So whenever you bought a bottled water, it had his face plastered on it...Trump water, hilarious. I will never go here again.

Went to the Wollman Memorial Rink on the 30th of December 2005 at about 21:00 PM.
There was a very short queue to get in which went down in no time at all.
Then the problems started.
The staff taking the cash at the entrance were so so rude and ignorant that they have never been taught the value of customer service. Donald Trump has his Millions of $$'s so he doesn't care what the people coming here think.
The staff at the counter didn't even bother to advise that you needed to pay $10 for a locker key and let you find this out after waiting for 10 - 15 minutes in another more busier queue to get your skates which were also served by staff who shouldn't be working somewhere like this and would be better employed by McDonald's toilet cleaning services (The less customer interaction the better).
There was also no lighting in half the bulding as there must have been a power failure but it didn't seem as though they wanted to pay anyone to come out and fix it so they just plugged in a few bedside table lights instead - bad bad bad!!!!!!
Anyway, after finally getting our skates and finding out that we had to obtain a locker key away back next to the entrance (which we could have got earlier if the rude staff had have told us) we managed to get out and onto the ice. This was great fun but sadly didn't make up for all the other hassle's we experienced.
I am sorry that I couldn't give this place a 5 out of 5 but it doesn't deserve it. Bad management and bad staff. The only polite people there were the tourists.
If anyone from any of the Trump organizations read this, please print off and present to your boss so he can read the commennts of the little people. This is a New York City tradition and should be good fun and enjoyed by all.
Happy 2006 everyone!!!!!!!

All experienced New York visitors,
I'm going to NYC for NY soon and this is definitely a must-do item for me and I want to go on New Years Eve afternoon. So thinking maybe i need to book tickets to avoid the madness and queuing but the official site seems like they don't sell normal tickets there. Needless to say lots of third party sites do at various prices. Could you recommend me somewhere reliable to book tickets that guarantee admission and no or little queuing?
Many thanks,
Dina D

Hi Cindyminx! I am looking at doing the same thing this christmas in NYC. What time did you get to the ice rink to have no ques?? Many thanks
Written 2 October 2015
The rink is very big so I have not seen lines of more than a couple minutes. You will get a delay if the people in front of you do not have cash, but that's basically it.
