Constructed in 1799 as a carriage house and converted into a day hotel in 1826, the Museum transports visitors back to a 19th-century country resort for New Yorkers escaping the crowded city below 14th Street. Enjoy a guided tour of eight period rooms, browse in the gift shop, and linger in the secret garden.

We arrived about 40 minutes before closing, but were nicely accommodated. The short video about New York City in the 1820's and 30's was an engaging history lesson. Our tour was a very brisk one (given the late hour, I guess), but our guide crammed...More

The Mt Vernon hotel is a reminder of the days when the "city" north of 14th St. was farmland and orchards and occasional country homes. A visit is a charming break from the city streets that now surround this historic property. For a little while...More

What was most interesting was learning about a "day" Hotel and that in the 1800's there was a horse track near it. Limited picture taking but good way to spend an hour.

I stopped by the gardens around this beautiful old house before going to a medical appointment nearby. As usual, but Garden was very peaceful in the early morning light, and could really imagine that there were no city buildings nearby.

Visited that place for Free Museum Day. It was such a bad choice. Place looks smaller than on pictures. There are just 2 floors with antique furniture. You are not allowed to take pics inside. Only in the garden, but Garden looks not better than...More
