Neighbourhood: Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our mission was simple: find bathrooms and use them. On our way to accomplishing our mission, we were able to wander a bit. Okay, okay, we got lost. Anyway, we did regret not having more time to explore further, but the mission did not allow for improvisation.

We finally went inside! What a beautiful building! Make sure to visit the gift shop. There are so many quality interesting items. And, you’ll be supporting the library with your purchase. We had a nice light lunch at the cafe too.

This is one of several research libraries in NYC. Entry is free and you can explore at your leisure or plan ahead and arrive early enough to do a docent led, one hour tour. There are so many treasures- the architecture of the building, the interiors of many rooms, the actual books and maps and special exhibits. Loved everything about it!

The main Public Library building has been named for this philanthropist. I love to come to this building and enjoy the very grand architecture and see what they have in their temporary expos. It is all free. Now very popular.

So yes, the building has another name. I know it as the Public Library and I never get tired of coming here because the architecture is so magnificent, but also because there is always a terrific free special expo here, often organized around something from their extensive archives. What a gem!

This is a staggering display of fine craftsmanship in stone, bronze, wood and plaster. The main floor is actually on the 3rd level with the great Rose Reading Room with an elaborate ceiling replete with dramatic clouds. Every aspect is finely designed from the reading lamps, chairs, tables, to the door knobs.

This is a beautiful library building with tons of marble, just a few steps away from Grand Central Station. If you are visiting the area and would like to do research in the library, you can apply for a library card on-line. Please note, if you are carrying luggage you will not be allowed in the building.

This is one really impressive building on 5th AVe with Bryant Park behind. It houses both the NYC Public Library and the Mannhattan Library collections Fabulous facility for free WI-FI WITH great, ornate reading rooms.

Such a beautiful library! We took the audio tour and learned so much about the library and the different rooms. It was great to learn about and see the cool architecture. We took pictures with "patience and fortitude" lions. We were here right at 10 a.m. so it wasn't crowded at all. We came back past at night and it was beautiful in the evening as well.

I was so happy to hear that they have reopened the Rose Main Reading Room after a long period of restoration. The interior of the library is filled with history itself and they often have interesting exhibits on show as well.
