Boroughs of the Dead is a New York City walking tour company with a macabre bent. Our walks are based on the city’s ghastly histories and ghostly legends, which are surprisingly abundant in a metropolis often considered too busy, too modern, for ghosts. But look around, and listen. They’re still here.

Our tour guide was so knowledgable and smart, but made the eerie history of NY very engaging and accessible. Plus it was a joy to be guided by someone who seemed to be as excited to talk about the subject matter as I was to...More

Our guide was very enthusiastic, engaging and knowledgeable. We really enjoyed her! You definitely get to see a side of the city you wouldn't otherwise, and you learn some pretty remarkable history as well. You don't realize what you walk by on a daily basis...More

I enjoyed this tour for a number of reasons. However, I'm not sure I would consider it "macabre" since the macabre aspects seemed to be outweighed by the straight history of the island. But this didn't bother me. I wanted to learn about the island...More

Really enjoyed this tour. We learned about the "dark" side of Christmas as well as how New York City authors and others shaped the way we celebrate Christmas today in America. Fun!

I was gifted this tour for my birthday as I've always had an interest in the otherworldly and live in the neighborhood. What I loved most about our tour guide, Riley, is that she was a born and raised New Yorker with a true interest...More

This Burroughs of the Dead ghost tour was so much more than just retelling of urban legends and lore of Manhattan. The guide, Leanna Hieber, was so knowledgeable about the history surrounding the ghostly stories. She provided much needed and appreciated context to what all...More

Riley was a great tour guide and provided us with 2 hours of entertainment. The tour was spooky, but not too scary, and covered some very interesting and dark parts of New York history. I would 100% recommend!

Excellent tour. Excellent guide. The tours are an excellent mix of local history and chills. They are more detailed than other haunted tours I've taken. Our guide even offered to show us the location of the nearest subway stop as well.

Greenwich Village
Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was
here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter
culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for
its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to
get a feel for this diverse and energetic
neighbourhood. You’ll find NYU students, street
performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the
fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess.

The calendar on the website should be accurate. I would email them if there is a tour posted to check availability as they can fill up quickly.
