Neighbourhood: Greenwich Village
Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to get a feel for this diverse and energetic neighbourhood. You’ll find NYU students, street performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess. Stroll the streets to discover a mix of majestic town homes and hidden bars and restaurants that give this neighbourhood an old-school residential feel. When the sun goes down, check out one of the famous jazz or comedy clubs that still packs them in every night.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We really loved walking by this street crossing the "magic" West Village. It was a very nice experience with many lovely shops in both sides. Worth a visit!

Lots of expensive stores here but still interesting to see how the other 1% spends. Worth a stroll and a visit though.

It's way too expensive here for anybody with a regular amount of money. Fancy designer franchise stores. Nothing original.

So much to discover, just walking around. Small parks, specialist shops, clubs that hosted musicians as they were starting up.

If you looking for a busy street with all sorts in it, look no further.
We loved just waking and soaking in the atmosphere, it really is some street.
Stopped to have a drink, try the Happy Hours as that how to do the bars and get into the rhythm of NYC, and there are loads of bars here, again just try them, on was The Peculiar Bar, that was Interesting.

Great fun

After a frustrating 30 minutes looping around and back onto ourselves we finally found the beginning of Bleecker Street (I blame our poorly labelled map!) And enjoyed walking its length. Mainly in the area for record shopping, we were able to hit a few of the nearby hotpots. There's a nice atmosphere the whole way along, but the western end is definitely the more upmarket part. If you're in NYC for more than a few days it's worth adding to your itinerary.

A very nice relatively new restaurant. It makes good use of the space in a renovated old loft building with its high ceiling. The service is friendly and attentive. The menu is made up of many original dishes which were enjoyed by our large group of eight. Unfortunately our long table was not well suited for the occasion and kept conversations among the few at each end
