When you go to a lIve music venue you expect music with attitude. You do not expect service with attitude. On arrival the door staff were rude and treated me like I was an unwanted nuisance rather than a welcome customer. There is so much choice for live jazz in New York there is no need to go here again... More

How do you rate such an iconic place? It is the quintessential jazz club, small- tiny in fact, we sat five feet from the band- intimate and in a funky basement. That we saw a modern jazz legend, Tom Harrell, made it even better Glitzy it is not, nor particularly comfortable or cheap - but hey! Some things must be... More

This is one of those Jazz Clubs you read about. It's a basement facility, very crowded (try and get a bench seat against the wall rather than the table in the middle which are cramped). The show started at 2030 and the doors opened at 1930. There's a minimum drink per person and a red wine costs about $8. We... More

Any Jazz lover should not miss the chance to visit the Village Vanguard. Caught the Bill Charlap Trio this week and the music, the setting, even the crowd of fellow jazz lovers made the whole concert an evening to remember!

Just saw Bill Charlap with Kenny and Peter Washington. Jazz at it's best. This is a must stop for anyone who live and breathes Jazz.

... walking down the steps of the Village Vanguard feels like a religious experience. I just saw Cecile McLorin Salvant twice. She was fantastic. Yes, the place is old, it does not look a Philippe Starck design, but instead it is over 80 (?) years of uninterrupted jazz. The sight lines are not all perfect (arrive early), but the sound... During Village Vanguard's big band show, the place is crammed to its last square inch with tourists and if you reserve your table beforehand be sure that you will be sharing your mini-sized table with a couple of strangers and you will be craning your neck above the heads that have been piled up in front of you to just... I am so glad that this lovely old place has been preserved and continues to host fantastic jazz. The admission is reasonable & it is easy to secure tickets online. Doors open at 7:30 & get there early for a good table in this tiny spot. The one drink minimum is fair & the drinks are good. I had left... More

Poor venue, wasn't allowed to talk, highly priced for poor music quality. Terrible doorman unbelievable that I took some jazz fans there first time in NY and everyone wanted to poke there eyes out. $30 plus one drink minimum over priced. Please don't be sucked into going there much better venues around the city.

Staying in West Village

Neighbourhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighbourhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
