Address
Neighbourhood: Greenwich Village
Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to get a feel for this diverse and energetic neighbourhood. You’ll find NYU students, street performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess. Stroll the streets to discover a mix of majestic town homes and hidden bars and restaurants that give this neighbourhood an old-school residential feel. When the sun goes down, check out one of the famous jazz or comedy clubs that still packs them in every night.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Here's the thing. Based on the name, the selection of vinyl and the presence of the resident cat I want to give an excellent to the this place. However, I just can't rate it that high.

Firstly, the website. Its a joke! Maybe you have to live in the USA to access it but I doubt it. Instead its useless and means that if you want any information you either need to telephone (which is fine if you are in America but not practical if you live overseas) or go to the store in person as they don't answer emails.

When we did visit, and we were the only ones in the shop, the guy serving practically hid from us and could not have been less interested in our questions. Clearly whatever he was doing on his computer was far more exciting. We had 10 nights in NYC and this was the only bad service we got the whole time.

Next annoying this was the lack of Bleecker Street Records t-shirts. We really wanted one and some for gifts but alas no luck as they have "been meaning to order them".

Not at all impressed with the attitude but if you just want to look at vinyl then its worth a visit for the selection.

Great selection of many genres. We were looking for classic rock and blues and there was a lot to pick from and the people working there were very knowledgeable and friendly. But they were very expensive. We didn't get anything and went back to the records stores where we live to get similar selection with MUCH better prices.

Being on Bleecker St. in the East Village , near Washington Square is one of my favorite places to be. And mostly because of the survival of some of the old standards like Bleecker St. Records 188 W. 4th St. I can get lost in here for hours and the staff is so knowledgeable.... will gladly chat with you regarding your musical interests and what you might want to add to your vinyl collection.

Loved this place. Very interesting with lots of stuff to look at. I always love spotting a new cool music store! If you're into music, it's definitely a gem to check out.

This store is undoubtedly a gem. We could have stayed in here for hours, digging through the crates and adding to our basket, with an expansive and varied selection of all things music related.

However, our shop was marred by a very unprofessional argument between management and employee - which subsequently led to some very rude customer service from said employee.

I imagine this is the exception, not the rule, but it was still unacceptable.

Have visited on previous trips to NYC, and did not realize they had moved. (Thank you, iPhone for finding the new address!) Good selection, cool vibe, and both young girls working were very friendly and helpful. Plenty of Bleecker St. Records merchandise available now to the previous reviewer who noted they didn't have any on his visit. Can't forget the resident cat who was keeping guard over the basement!

I love this quaint record shop! I found so many rare Dylan records I didn't own already as well as unique Dylan posters. I love the vibe, energy and atmosphere and I am thankful this records store still exists! The staff members were friendly and helpful. You will find the musical gems downstairs. Have fun exploring!

I'm a collector of vinyl. This is vinyl heaven. Not to be mistaken for the overpriced place around the corner- if "Do they know it's Christmas" is worth 50 dollars my collection will make me a millionaire. Bleeker St records was recommended to me by the author of the NYC app I downloaded from iTunes, and he was entirely right. If i owned a record shop it would be like this. oh, and look out for the largest grey cat you've ever seen, but be warned, he bites if you tickle his feet!
