The ride in the elevator was fun in itself. However, as soon as you step out on to the deck, the sounds of the noisy city beneath you are completely gone and the silence engulfs you. I visited during the night, and do not regret it a single bit, as the city lights beneath you are a mesmerising sight to... More

Like the Empire State Building, this is well worth a visit. I didn't even know it existed when I visited 20 years ago (it did!) but - though it's less well-known than the ESB - the views from the top are stunning. As seems the case with all NYC attractions, be prepared for airport-style security checks. We went in February... More

It was a little chilly but I am so glad we went up to the Top. It was beautiful and the view was spectacular. I also new some of the history of the Rainbow room and imagined all the different people that made their journey up the elevator to the Top. This is an attraction you shouldn't miss on a... More

Honestly, the Top of the Rock is infinitely better than the empire state observation deck and offers breathtaking views of NY from a 360 degree perspective. It's dead easy to book - just get your ticket, spend a bit of time in the Rockefeller center then head up on the elevator. The views are spectacular; a must see.

You need to set the time to climb to the top. Interesting climb next to the sunset because you can see the city by day and by night. The top floor has a perfect view of Central Park and the Hudson and on the other side you see Manhattan and a beautiful view of the Empire States. You have to... More

I've visited Top of the Rock both during the day and at night. Both offer great views but I do love seeing the city at night much more. The security checkpoint and lines depend on when you visit. A mid summer visit showed long lines and significant wait and an evening visit in February was no wait at all. There... More

This is a must-do for tourists visiting this city, as you get to see all of the city in its glory. We went twice, once at night to see everything all lit up. We got a pass that allowed a second visit, so we came back in the daytime where we could see the whole Central Park. Amazing!

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
