We did not find much open. When we went to LA, every hotel had maps of their garment district with list of shops which was helpful in finding what we were looking for, Hopefully such a map exist for NYC, didn't find much online either....More

It's worth it just to stroll through the Garment District to look in shop windows! Rows and rows of colorful fabrics, beads, buttons and appliques! Fun!

Honestly, any day is a good day apart from Sundays. I'd say go when it's not lunch break and generally when there's not too many people.

Never took a tour...just walking around can see the sculptures evocative of the area and people walking racks of clothing to and fro...lots of places advertise open to retail and often people on the street holding placards... More
