The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Greenwich Village
Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to get a feel for this diverse and energetic neighbourhood. You’ll find NYU students, street performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess. Stroll the streets to discover a mix of majestic town homes and hidden bars and restaurants that give this neighbourhood an old-school residential feel. When the sun goes down, check out one of the famous jazz or comedy clubs that still packs them in every night.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

On many of my NYC visits, I see some theatre. This time I went to Cherry Lane Theatre in Greenwich Village. The performances here dates back to 1924. I prefer smaller Off-Broadway theatres, where I feel more relaxed and like the atmosphere better.

This wonderful play set in Buffalo in the 70's is about an Irish Catholic family during a time of change and how the younger family members are done with secrets and ready to move on with the times. It is the story of deep family love and is thought provoking but also humorous and fun.
The set is terrific and evokes the time and setting perfectly- loved the pictures of the Pope and JFK on the walls as well as the upright piano and polyester everything!
The cast was convincing and engaging- the 90 minutes flew by as I became hooked on the story which was written by Laura Pederson whose resume is quite impressive. I have read all her books and they are all fun and interesting.
The theater is charming and small- not a bad seat to be had. The neighborhood offers great dining and shopping and is close to Bleeker Street.
Go see this one...you'll be glad you did.

What a perfect evening in the city...2+ hours of laughter at 'Nunsense' and outstanding food at 'Palma Restaurant'. Greenwich is my favorite NYC neighborhood. I'm certain if we lived here, we would be season ticket holders at this awesome little theater. If you're looking for bright lights, major productions, and big crowds this is not the theater for you...this is where the unpretentious regular theater-goers come for good quality off-Broadway productions.

The actresses in 'Nunsense' were all very talented...and, darn funny. And, I appreciate that the play was written with heart. No angry Catholic bashing here...just good-natured fun. I highly recommend coming here!

Nice, comfortable, great place to catch a show on a quiet, charming street in the West Village. Every seat is a good one in this intimate theatre space.

Took the family to see Mike Birbiglia. This is a great spot to see a show. Seating was comfortable. Staff was very pleasant and helpful. The location is like a little oasis in a city of clutter and chaos.

I just saw The Traveling Lady and it was extraordinary. The theater is small, the staff very polite, the only drawback is it's a good walk from the train station and I easily get lost in the village.

We were going to see Shades, a play that we had heard about through social media and it was being shown in this theatre. We loved it! The theatre was in one of the most picturesque parts of New York with really nice restaurants near by. It's tucked away in a quaint corner. It is a small community theatre but very efficiently run. We had a great experience with friendly reception and small drinks bar. The theatre itself was small but comfortable. Would certainly keep in contact with what's going on there.

What a charming and sophisticated place. Tucked into a quiet lane in the West Village. Saw "Everything You Touch" on a snowy afternoon. Brilliant acting. Legacy of top talent and new work. Reasonable ticket prices. Cute restaurant/bar two doors down. Great place for a relaxing and enlightening outing. Hidden treasure -- few tourists -- lots of arts insiders.

Loved this theater, small and intimate. All seats are close to the stage so you can't get a bad seat. Saw "Everything You Touch" and we all enjoyed the play. Very fun thing to do. We had dinner before- there are some great restaurants close by and it was a great evening.

Enjoyed the Brightness of Heaven last night. The studio theater is small and intimate. This show was funny, moving and a clear depiction of Catholic life in the seventies.
Fun area for an visit ..good restaurant ,the Commerce right next door. We will watch for up coming plays.
