Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We actually came here for the maple syrup festival-way too crowded. Instead, we took the east hiking path to the falls-1 mile round trip. It was terrific to get in some exercise in a safe place. Afterwards it was picnic time. Spend a few hours enjoying nature here

Nice hike to Cunnungham Falls. We took the easy way up. It was a lovely hike. There is a more difficult path if you prefer.

The hike to the waterfall was very nice, unfortunately when I visited, the waterfall was basically dried up from the drought. My dog enjoyed using the accessible hike to the falls.

We drove the scenic drive through the mountain and went to the state park. Did the falls trail. It’s only a mile. Very easy but disappointing. The falls have barely any water. Not much to see. Then we drove to lake. It was closed for the season.

We spent most of the day here , kayaking, swimming, would have hiked but our daughter isn’t a good hiker so we missed the waterfall.

Take a 20 minute walk from the lake parking lot to the falls ending in a great photo.
No cost to take the walk except during peak season.

I was excited to visit this place because I love the outdoors, mountains, and especially waterfalls. However; it was a disappointing trip. The restrooms were disgusting. The 1 mike hike to and from the falls was ok. There are multiple routes to take. Once we got to the falls, it was not very scenic. The view is just a large rock with some sparadic stream. It wasn't particularly a waterfall. There were so many people crawling around the rock from which the stream flow, it took away from it's natural beauty.

This park is fairly close to DC. They have a nice little lake with a beach and great hiking trails. For the more intrepid hikers, you can even hike close to Camp David, the mountain home of the President of the United States. The only drawback is that its extremely popular so it can get very busy at times. Specially when the weather is nice.

We stopped for one night on our way home from Florida. We stayed in the manor loop site 10. It was a nice long site with electric hook up. We had a tough time getting into the site. The roads are narrow for a big camper too. While we were here there was a tornado warning & the camp host came around to warn us & tell us to seek shelter in the bathrooms if we needed to. The bathroom was up the hill so we stayed in our camper. Luckily we had good tv reception so we could track the storm which went south of us.
This is a beautiful heavily treed park. It’d be great for a smaller camper or tent. I doubt we’ll return here but it was pretty & quiet.

We like the park, especially the waterfalls... The fall colors were gorgeous when we were there (I can only go back a year but we were last there in Oct 2019

Where do you park to be closest to the beach?

There's a large parking lot right next to the beach area and restrooms. The lot is just past the entrance where your money is collected.

How early would you suggest getting there on the weekend? I hear they turn people away when they've reached capacity.

I'd get there early. We went during the week and it was pretty crowded, so I imagine it would be more crowded on the weekend.

How long would it take to drive there from Silver Spring?
Are dogs allowed in the beach and water? Or is there a specific area just for dogs?
Sue L
Myrtle Beach, SC806 contributions
I'm pretty sure I saw where dogs are not allowed on the beach area, as most state parks. There are plenty of other areas where you can bring your dog. I want to think that there was just the once beach/sandy area there.
What is the cost to enter the swimming lake

When we went there wasn’t a specific cost for the lake—just the entry fee for the park.
I do not have a handicapped sticker. I am 80 and cannot walk far. I understand there is a handicapped lot with a wooden walkway to the falls. How can I use this lot and walkway without having a handicapped sticker?

Perhaps if you go to the ranger station they would be able to give you permission to park in the handicap lot.
How long is it from a parking place to the falls. We are coming to see the falls but walking far is an issue.

There is handicapped parking on Rte 77 and a short boardwalk (wheelchair accesible) that leads to the falls. It takes me about 5-10 minutes to walk to the falls on the boardwalk. There are a few benches along the way so you can stop and rest if you have difficulty walking.
