About
Catoctin Breeze is a family-owned vineyard located in the northeastern foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Formed by ancient Appalachian soil and perpetually cool winds, and produced by hand from field to bottle, our wines are as accessible as they are expressive. We are a 21+ vineyard.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Cotoctin Breezes Vineyard and Winery is located in the valley of the Cotoctin Mountains, providing rolling hills for growing the grapes. They grow six varieties and obtain more as needed from other Maryland vineyards. We were happily surprised that the tasting room was open on a Tuesday afternoon, as many wineries, if they do open in the winter, only admit the public on a day or two a week. There are many tables on the lawn outside to enjoy the breezes and wines during the warmer months, but today we found a small group sitting next to the fireplace in the tasting room enjoying wine and snacks they had brought. A wine club and purchase by the case both provide discounts. We sampled both reds, whites, and a rose before purchasing a mixed case. All the wines were fresh and vibrant and, fortunately, did not have an odd earthy task I have experienced at some other local wineries. I was particularly happy to find an Albariño (2021) and a Cabernet Franc (2020). Christina was on duty and was impressive in her knowledge of the wines and courteousness. We hope to return in the late summer to see the vineyards in full growth. Finally of interest was a historical information board on site that addressed the role the Catoctin Mountains played leading up to the Civil War Battle of Gettysburg.

Be advised… no children are allowed in this winery. It is a working farm? We visited on the day after Thanksgiving with family members from the UK. However when we entered the winery we were told that our 3 year old, who was in a stroller, was not permitted to be inside because the winery was a working farm. The only person we saw working was the bartender. We wanted to buy 2 cases of wine but after that treatment we left.

Some wine-loving friends and I met up at Catoctin to try their wines and have a picnic afterwards. I enjoyed the tasting we had very much: nice tasting room, professional staff and good wines, several of which were unusual varietals for this area. My favorite was the Teraldego, though I enjoyed the sparkling pet nat, roses and whites, as well. Would love to go back later in the fall, with cooler weather and turning leaves, and try other reds I didn't have the chance to on this occasion. Really like the fact that Catoctin Breeze is adults only, too.

Every time we visit has always been a pleasure. Starting with the friendly & knowledgeable staff smiling & waiting to give you a pleasurable experience.
My wife & I love children, however when we visit wineries we really feel this is for adults to enjoy god food, entertainment, other adult conversations, & of course the delicious wine that Catoctin Breeze offers.
Thank you Catoctin Breeze for the decision you made for Adults Only & the safety for all.

A well-appointed winery in a bucolic setting. There were four of us and we were able to bring our own food. We bought four tastings, got a discount on the bottles (purchased six). We were fortunate to be able to sit and chat in an uncrowded (or maybe even unused) room in the facility.

We joined the vineyard’s member program in June 2020 and loved visiting a couple of times a month to enjoy a picnic with our kids in the beautiful scenery. After our visit in September 2020, we found out that the vineyard doesn’t allow people under 21 on the project anymore. Such a disappointment because it was a perfect place with room for kids to play ball in the grass, so we no longer recommend this vineyard.

It was lovely to sit outside at the open tables and drink the Catoctin Wine and enjoy the sun and view of the vineyard. Wine was good and staff were very friendly. Lovely setting for a relaxing afternoon.

Stopped in to check it out and were pleasantly surprised by the great dry wines they have, especialy the reds. Though cold outside it was very nice inside with a fireplace and comfortable seating. The staff was very knowledgeable and told us the background of the winery as well as described each of the wines. We ended up joining their wine club and look forward to many more visits!

This winery was not quite as good as some we have visited in Maryland. The outside areas were lacking for sitting around and relaxing. The wines were good, but not great, at least for our tastes. Several reds and whites were tasted and enjoyed in the barn. It seems like the winery is fairly 'young' so improvements are likely. We will give it another chance next year.
