By chance we came across this museum. We knew nothing about it’s history or exhibitions but decided since the Art Museum was closed we would go take a visit. You don’t have to be a military buff to enjoy a well presented history of the Arsenal and of Arkansas. The uniforms from the Civil War were great and especially moving was the room with photos of the Vietnam war with Bob Dylan playing in the background. You will even learn about one of the first Women’s club established in the late 1800’s and still meets to this very day, the Aesthetic Club. There are firearms, swords and one of the first jeeps...we thought we would spend 10 min. And spent one hours....you will love the vintage pin-up posters from WWII.

This is a free museum in the arsenal building dating back to the 1800's. Excellent variety of artifacts covering many wars. This is the birth home of Douglas McArthur. A must for military buffs. Wonderful outside tribute to the Korean War veterans.

Now the Museum of Arkansas Military History
Jul 2012 • Couples
This building once made up a complex known as the Little Rock Arsenal. It is the only remaining building and is the birthplace of General Douglas MacArthur. The building was constructed before the Civil War and in the days leading up to the war was the center of a crisis. The governor wished the arsenal surrendered to the new Confederate government and after several days of near bloodshed, the arsenal was surrendered before Arkansas actually became a part of the Confederacy. In later times it became the Museum of Natural History and now is the Museum of Arkansas Military History. You can view several exhibits that highlight the part Arkansans have played in America's wars up to the present war on Terror. If you are patriotic and have an interest in military history here's the place to go.
