Every American should visit Yorktown to learn how we gained our independence. The visitor center was a good film for the basics. There is a small, but excellent museum, which included Washington's campaign tent and LaFayette's Gun. We took an easy ranger guided walk which was informative. Then we purchased the CD driving tour ($4.95) which was well done and... More

Yorktown was not a confined battle area as one might think. It was, at least initially, established over an area covering several square miles. For this reason a walking tour would take a full day. The car tour, if you are reading the signs and getting out of your car, takes a good while as it is. The battlefield today... More

Yorktown is an interesting historical site, but it is far more interesting if you hear the details from a “pro.” The day we visited they had scheduled three ranger tours of about an hour each, and we luckily showed up five minutes before one started. The tour itself is really a talk held outside of the visitor center at two... More

Yorktown battlefield is a super interesting historical experience. The museum, while small, is very interesting. They have some of George Washington's original tents! It's worth going to see those items. The drive through the battlefield is also very nice. Be sure to stop and see the small French cemetery. Very moving. If you are interested in our country's history, you... More

Being that this is one of the most important sites of the American Revolution, it lacked a lot of things. Just looking at open fields is a bit disappointing. Maybe if there were some people in period costumes explaining the different areas, or something more than just grassy areas to look at it would be more interesting.

Having company come in from out-of-town presents one with an opportunity to revisit special things you knew as a child. Yorktown Battlefield was such a visit. They now have movies and tour guides and it is all very interesting again. I also picked up a "Senior Pass" ($10.00) which allows me to visit any of the National Parks and Recreational... More

It's unfortunate that while the beauty and historical significance is alluring, it is a confusing and therefore boring tour due to the fact that the park lacks a great audio tour. You may find yourself driving around aimlessly, reading signs that may give clues, but all the while missing the Big Picture. I blame the park service for not taking... More

The battlefield has a lot of meaning to our family, because we had ancestors here. The visitors Center is well done, and the Battlefield itself is well kept and groomed. We walked some of the grounds and drove around other parts. It was the one place in the south our ancestor fought, and it had as much meaning for the... More

What a fascinating place to visit. The museum is small but informative. The introductory movie helped place the battle into the broader context of the Revolutionary War. But the star of the show was the battlefield itself. We only did the shorter driving tour, but found it quite moving. Worth getting out of the car at many of the stops... More

Start at the museum, where you can purchase your ticket to travel around this National Park. The museum is small, but nice. The 10 minute movie gives a good overview of the events that took place during the American Revolution, although the movie is showing its age as it looks like it was produced in the 1980's. Afterwards the drive... More
