We opted for the ranger guided hike and would certainly recommend this. He was an enthusiastic guide and pointed out the geology in an interesting and easy to understand way. Amazing that cars once drove part way up as evident through remnants of road! The cliffs either side are impressive, and as others have noted Star Wars fans will enjoy... More

Easy to access, popular hike. Has several options to make it more challenging- can continue to a vista point at the end and/or you can choose to do the loop to make it longer.

Golden Canyon is an easy hike from Badwater Road up to the Red Cathedral through the colorful hills which most of is golden in color. In the walls of the canyon, you will see geologic upheaval and tilting and bending of beds of sediment. One of the most popular hikes in Death Valley, it leads to other trails that can... More

No unpaved road here unlike mosaic canyon. We could go in only for 10 mins as it was getting dark. Took some nice pictures. I would definitely plan for longer stop here and finish Zabriskie hike next time. There are 2-3 hikes here - one of them takes you from golden canyon to Zabriskie point.

This hike was recommended to us and was well worth it. Lots of interesting rock formations. We added the Gower Gulch connector and the Gulch itself to our hike for a total of about 5 miles. Fascinating place but I wouldn't want to do it in the summer. Too hot.

did ~1mile hike last week with family - even on hot day, it has shade in places so long as you dont go around 11-2pm when sun is high. - nice hike and photo opportunities - even though it is still doable on warm days, take good amount of water with you.

... or jammed in the cracks of the canyon walls. Great walk after Artist's Palette drive. Star Wars 1 emanates from this classic canyon with a the holey grail of Cathedral Rock at end.

Nice Hike up to Red Rock Cathedral (approximately 1.5 miles each way) with beautiful views (but a lot looks the same) along the way. Terrain is interesting as you are in an alluvial fan created by flooding.

Death Valley continues to surprise, with changing scenery and astounding vistas. You can get a peek at an inner canyon by visiting this one. We started with an interpretive talk given by Ranger Carrie Jordan. In an hour, we hiked in about 1/2 mile on an easily managed gravel path, and covered a 100 million years of canyon development as... More
