Great guide! very nice history about eh beggining of the solitaires! Al Capone was there. We can also see the interesting method where 1 guard could watch everybody.

If you’ve been to Philly and you’ve never been to Eastern State, YOU ARE MISSING OUT! Not only on a fun, unusual museum, but on a chance to learn about an often swept-under-the-rug facet of American history. The site is visually stunning, educational, fun, and...More

This was a great stop. We took the hospital guided tour which id highly recommend. Tour is limited to 30 people - so line up early. The audio as part of the normal admissions was perfect. I dont regret not doing the 2pm guided tour....More

Highly recommended. My kids loved it too. Unheated and so be aware in very cold weather it can get cold. Audio tour included in admission and really helps understand the prison.

This was a very educational prison. My daughter said it was almost as interesting as Alcatraz. There were a couple inappropriate stories in some areas, but there were parental advisories. This will definitely leave wonderful memories in our hearts.

Haunting in many ways. A taste of history and the human condition. A tour of prison life in the 1800's to 1900's but also a great example of preserved decay. Well worth the visit.

I have been to Eastern State a few years in a row for their Terror Behind The Walls! It is a pretty awesome Halloween Attraction! Besides for the scary rooms, make up and live actors scaring the pants off of you the MAIN ATTRACTION is...More

Admission is fairly priced. It's a self guided tour in which you're provided a headset and an audiobox which covers every station both on and off the "guided" tour. Staff seemed to be very knowledgeable and were engaging. If you have an afternoon to spare,...More

You can walk around alone. It's very helpful to listen to the ear phone tour.

I'd say that yes, there probably are areas that are off limits; however, those areas are probably not worth looking at as they're in a state of disrepair. As you wander around, you see (if my memory serves me correctly, an... More
