A truly beautiful old theater

The theater is ornate, gilded and a great place to see and hear a show. Acoustics are great, and the place is just beautiful. Worth looking at even if you aren't going to a show.

Saw the Nutcracker for the first time and loved it. You feel like you are in the middle a movie with the decor. The sound is wonderful and a great view.

This is a legacy theater where I have been several times for various events. It is a pleasant setting I know mostly for opera. The particular event I attended this time was a Christmas concert. The house is well kept and has its charm. The upper circles are way too hard to access for elderly people if you need to... More

My husband and I went to the first showing for the season of the Nutcracker and I was speechless at the beauty of the building as well as the beauty and intricate detail of the show. If you enjoy the arts in the form of theatre, you must take the time to go to the Academy of Music for the... More

This venue is so unique and glorious in it's own right and it's a great place to see a concert. We saw Norah Jones here and we'll never forget it. One caveat: we sat in the orchestra area and the seating is very TIGHT. It was built for smaller people in a different era, but that makes the visit all... More

The policy of selling drinks throughout the concert and allowing people to carry their drinks to their seats instead of staying in the lobby turned what should have been a great concert into a "never coming back here again" experience. Even the people who kept quiet were forcing others to stand up to let them pass while they went back... More

I always love attending events at the Academy of Music. The theater is beautiful, historical, and within walking distance are hotels and restaurants. I bought an opera package for the season. So far saw Turandot, which was fantastic with impressive performers, lavish set design, and well-researched costuming (the setting was China.) The only cautionary statement I would make is that the orchestra... More

Went with my boyfriend and a friend to see the Philadelphia Orchestra, beautiful old building with great sound. It was just a evening show during the week so it wasn't too bad finding tickets and seats. If you're planning on going to see Nutcracker at Christmas time get your tickets in advance.

We saw a very nice ballet performance of Don Quixote. It is based on a famous novel by Cervantes and is considered to be one of the most influential works from the Spanish Golden Age (around the end of 15th century to middle of 17th century). It is about Quixote's quest as a romantic white knight (knight-errant), to fight dragons,... More
