Leave the kids at home, because this night tour of Philly is strictly R-rated. Be led along the darker streets of the city, hearing stories of hauntings, executions, vampires, and other chilling tales. See the city's beautiful historic buildings lit up at night, and find out facts about them that you won't hear on standard daytime tours.

We visited the garden on our way to the theater. It was quite pleasant to divert from the street and walk into this garden oasis. It is a good example of 18th century horticultural design.

Located a stones throw from Independence Hall on Walnut Street, between 3rd and 4th, this garden is overseen by the National Parks Service. Admission is free. The design of the garden is very formal and orderly, with symmetrical blocks of plantings. There is a lovely white-painted gazebo and trellises and pergolas. You enter through a lovely brick entryway with wrought iron gates. Inside, the garden is planted with trees and plants which would have been commonly used in the colonial period. The formal geometric design would have been historically accurate for Colonial America gardens. Just a wonderful haven to stroll through, rest and relax, before continuing touring. Permits are required for weddings and wedding photographs.

Located a 1/2 block west on Walnut Street of the smaller Benjamin Rush house site gardens, this garden has attractive brick walls with symmetrical planter boxes, evoking a proper colonial green space. It backs up to the old Dock Creek riverbed and makes for a nice cut thru while exploring Independence National Historic Park.

This lovely garden is located in the area right near Independence Hall - historic buildings surround a park like area. Behind one of the buildings is the garden - apparently homes of this period had gardens right outside the house. This garden had a number of beds with a variety of herbs and flowering plants and shrubs. An arbor connected to the house. Nice stop on your way to other historic sites in the area.

Added this to my itinerary during my visit to historic Philadelphia. Short walk from all the major attractions and a lovely spot to relax and regroup. I would recommend stopping by here for a rest.
