The entire Battlefield is just amazing to visit, but how many people know this particular Monument was designed by the same gentleman that designed Mount Rushmore. So many things to discover in Gettysburg!! A week is not enough. But I've been here many many times.

There are very few Confederate monuments, compared to the dozens from the Union side. I guess the winners decide the history !

One of my family's favorite monuments on the Auto tour. Hope you find it as touching as we did. When you stand at the statue and look over the fields, you can imagine how the soldiers felt.

We stopped here when taking the guided battlefield tour on the bus. We were able to get off and here the explanation of the location and the monument. It was a beautiful monument and we were lucky to have a nice day to get off...More

The North Carolina Monument is a beautiful piece of art. As you observe this monument, think of the fact that 25% of the casualties at Gettysburg were from North Carolina.

Superb large sculpture by the same man who would do Mt. Rushmore. This is on the western side of town where the Confederate troops amassed. Pickett's charge came from this area.

I was completely surprised when I learned that 1 in every 4 soldiers lost in the Civil War was from North Carolina. That almost sounds unbelievable. Worth taking a moment to recognize the sacrifices.

Give yourself at least 10 minutes to view this and take in the sculpting involved. Amazing detail and craftsmanship.

A very interesting monument and worth a stop. Get your guide to tell you about each of the men portrayed. It also has added interest as the statue was created by the man who did Mount Rushmore.

Reminiscent of Pearl Harbor, this bronze monument depicts a group of infantrymen during Pickett's Charge, when the South sustained heavy casualties. It is a beautiful artwork.
