Very nice even though there is construction going on. The tour guide was excellent and funny. That is how you learn! I kept the last star off because of the heavy-handed approach of flashing lights and stop when exiting the park by the park police. That is a waste of taxpayer money.

The Vanderbilt Mansion is phenomenal for the historians, family for picnics, artists to paint the views, photographers as well as models, Free Concerts in the park during the summer which is the Best! I go twice a month! A must see & experience while in Hyde Park NY as well as the small businesses right next door.

Our tour guide was terrific and walked us through this beautiful mansion, and gave us lots of terrific details about life for the Vanderbilts. My family and I, and our Danish house guest, thoroughly enjoyed it.

I went for a tour in June 2016, it was really hot! Obviously, there isn't any air conditioning, so the tour is hot, but it's great that they only allow a set amount into the mansion at a time. The tour guide was lovely, and full of great information about the home and family. It was so interesting to hear... More

Although the exterior was under renovation, touring the interior with a sweet, special, knowledgeable guide was an awesome experience.

I am all for National Historic Sites, but this is a good example of what should not be one. It is simply a big house from the Gilded Age, with no intrinsic historic or architectural value. Neither its owner nor her heirs had the money to keep it up, so her neighbor FDR suggested that she give it to the... More

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and very funny. It was very interesting to see how the Vanderbilt's lived and to hear the story about their fortune. Unfortunately it was winter and the gardens were dormant. Would like to visit again in Spring. There is a nice gift store, but no food or beverages. The grounds are beautiful, bring a... More

I enjoyed each minute I spent here. The house is beautiful and the presentation is immaculate. We're lucky that after Vanderbilt died in 1938 the house lay empty (although full furnished) until FDR purchased it for the park service at the incredible sum of $1. We spent about two and a half hours on the grounds in late December. I... More
