We walked up to see the tree on our way out of town. The trail is well kept, easy to navigate, and beautiful. The tree is impressive, but the whole walk I thought was pleasant... and it's close to town and not overly physically challenging.

Driving through this drive was so great. The little gift shop was perfect. The area around the tree was so peaceful and the redwood forest on the trial were gifts from God.

Over the years, visiting Astoria, I've taken this lovely trail many times. The trail head starts @ 28th & Irving Avenue in the hills above Astoria. It's a fairly easy hike, and you can take a detour to see the Cathedral Tree, a Sitka Spruce. If you keep on your path you will come to the famous Astoria Column, which... More

My wife and I were in Astoria for the day of Saturday, September 24. We were on a ship, so this small town had 3000 more visitors the day we were there. Apparently none of them had any interest in this lovely trail. We hiked the trail and then hiked on up to Astoria Column (then all the way back).... More

We hiked this trail from the Astoria Column to the Cathedral Tree. Great walk through an old growth forest. Very lush with lots of ferns and moss. I think it is much wetter and muddier on this section of the trail (from the Astoria Column) as opposed to the main trail head at the bottom of the hill. About a... More

We walked from the Astoria Column to the Cathedral Tree on a beautiful day in Astoria. The Cathedral Tree is a Sitka Spruce.

A pleasant easy access short trail that does l ad to numerous other trails.. You can go from the Cathedral tree to the Column. We made it a two hour round trip walk from our wonderful accommodation on the other side of town.

Stopped by on whim. Liking to spend some quality time with kids. They enjoyed the cathedral tree. It was easy and a short walk. Next time I would love to go the other way (to column).

The ferns and trees are dense. The trail is all shady. It's a bumpy, non-stroller friendly trail. The tree at the end has a huge hole in it that you can climb through, but watch out for the sap inside the hole. I thought the trail would be longer, but it's a short hike.

A typical gorgeous Oregon hike through trees. I was unimpressed with the "cathedral tree" at the end, seemed like just another big tree to me. This hike is right next to the column so adds a bit of adventure to your trip up there.
