Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a small place that's right across the street from Maryland General Hospital. You can get there by taking the light rail and walking about 3 blocks north. The neighborhood is gentrifying and it shows. That said, we felt safe walking in the area. There is no admission fee--just a box for donations. On the first floor there are pictures of Eubie Blake and Billie Holiday--both Baltimore natives. Also, there are a couple of his pianos as well as some other memorabilia. In another room there are temporary exhibits. When we went, there were album covers from the 70s featuring funkadelic and soul singers for the most part.

The reason I say it's worth a visit if you go at the right time is that there are days when a jazz group rehearses on the second floor. Rehearsals are open to the public. Also, the Center hosts other events at times.

Still, we're glad we went. The staff there is very friendly and gladly answers any questions you may have.

The institute is a gem! I wish more people know of it's existence I visited about a year ago. As a musician, I have much appreciation for all genres, especially jazz! Please spread the word about this wonderful place.

This is a large facility that recognizes the contributions of Eubie Blake, as well as Billie Holiday and Cab Calloway, among others. Moreover, it is a community cultural center that occupies children and community residents with lessons in music, dance, drama, performance and fine arts, much like what is offered at the Reginald F Lewis Museum on the Inner Harbor. Our intention was to see a featured art exhibition, but we had or dates confused and arrived after the exhibition closed. We were happy to discover that the 4th floor serves as a jazz club, which features live concerts. Although we're not from Baltimore, we were pleased to learn that the facility offers rental space for individuals and groups who are planning events. We added our names to the email list and look forward to attending an upcoming concert.

Eubie Blake is what The Institute is known as to Baltimore Musicians. I have performed here several times. Wonderful jazz music, very easy to load in instruments and this is from the Drummer's perspective. Additionally, the staff is very attentive to your needs, the art and history is priceless. I highly recommend this cultural center neatly tucked downtown Baltimore.

Small venue but well appointed and a very friendly staff. Doubles as a great venue for local artists to get some publicity. I happen to go there during a fashion show that attracts some of the top fashion designers in Baltimore. There's memorabilia of the great Eubie Blake and Billie Holliday both from Baltimore. A worthwhile place to visit in the middle of antique row. You never know what new artist is having an exhibit there! It's a good place to get local information of the art scene.
