Franklin Square is located on the west side in close proximity to the city market. It was named in honor of Benjamin Franklin and has a beautiful statue of Haitian soldiers who fought for American independence. It has some wonderful history to learn about. I was moved reading all the bricks. It's a nice quiet park. I've been through it... More

Bringing old history to today's tourist, FRANKLIN SQUARE ( named for Benjamin Franklin) has an excellent monument of French Haitians who came to help during the American Revolution. Les Chasseurs Volontaires de Saint Domingue", or the Haitians who came to Savannah to fight for American independence is well explained by the inscriptions on the base of the monument. Step across... After breakfast we went for a wander, and found ourselves at this square on the edge of the historic district. It has a large, nice, and educational monument for Les Chasseurs Volontaires de Saint Domingue", or the Haitians who came to Savannah to fight for American independence during the Revolutionary War. One of the better monuments that we'd run into... More

Laid out in 1790 and named for Benjamin Franklin in 1791, it sits on the west end of Old Savannah across from the City Market. It was bull dozed during Savannah's "development blizzard" in the 1970s, but rediscovered and rebuilt in the 1980s. The imposing monument at its center honors Haitians who fought under the leadership of General Pulaski during... More

This Square is next to City Market; make the journey across the street and give it a visit. There’s a fascinating and well-designed sculpture of an African American military formation and drummer. The best part is the sculpture actually tells you about the individuals. You should come to admire the art work, but the history is sure to draw you... More

This statue is beautiful and has great meaning to my family and I. We were leaving Washington DC to head back to Florida, and we had to stop here, and I'm glad we did :-)

Franklin Square is the West of City Market area. First African Baptist Church is to the West of the square and Vinnie's Pizza to the East. The photo shown here is off of LaFayette Square and the photo is showing the tops of the Spires of the Cathedral of St. John The Baptist. Franklin Square has the statues of the... More

Excellent memorial honoring the Haitian volunteers who assisted us in our battle for independence. Centrally located and clean. It's a great place to catch a breather before heading to the river.

This is a nice but average square with a benches and lots of shade. It wasn't on our list of squares to see since there are like 22 or more squares in Savannah and didn't want to go out of our way to see incidental ones. But this one was in area we walked by and so walked through it.... More

there are so many beautiful squares to visit in Savannah it is difficult to see them all and the Franklin Square should be considered a lower tier visit unless time is not an issue. park benches and not much else to attract the visitor. Easy parking around the square.
