You will likely have a problem finding a place to park, but if you do, you will be rewarded, The location where the mythical bus stop bench is in a small garden located at an intersection on the north side of the square, facing Bull Street. The church steeple where the feather drifted down is the Independent Presbyterian Church at 207 Bill Street. A lovely square.

This is the famous Forrest Gump Square. The bench is long gone, but you can still get a photo of the park and there are other benches that you can sit on around the park. It seemed to be a mix of tourists and locals when we visited. This park was an easy walk from the historic water front district of Savannah.

A statue of James Oglethorpe stands in the square, a man who contributed so much to the planning of Savannah and their lovely historic district and squares. The bench used for the scenes in Forest Gump is no longer there but there are other benches to sit and enjoy the live oaks.

We visited the park early morning with our family after a nearby breakfast. The bank of the Forrest Gump film is no longer there, but it is really worth a visit.

Chippewa Square got lots of history. This is where Forrest Gump took place from the beginning of the movie where he sat in the bench.

We hit upon this little, shady square on our recent walk through the Historical District of Savannah. Apparently it is one of 24 original squares designed around this town. It's quite small but also quite atmospheric. In the first instance you have the trees with the hanging Spanish moss giving very much a Southern feel to the place. Then there are plenty of park benches in the shade to sit and contemplate a world gone by. And in the middle you have the imposing bronze statue of the British gentleman, James Edward Oglethorpe wearing a contemporary military uniform from the 1700s, including armour, waistcoat, boots, and a tricorn hat. He is renowned as the founder of the colony of Georgia in what was then British America. And, to his credit, he was much opposed to slavery.

I didn't realize it at the time but this little square is also the venue for a famous "Life is like a box of chocolates" scene in the Forrest Gump movie. I'll certainly watch the movie again just to say "I've been there" :-)

Chippewa square is surrounded by charming old buildings, churches, a historic theater, beautiful mansions and more. The oaks are incredible and you can spend hours sipping coffee from the shop next door and people watching.

All the squares were awesome to see, we just happened to start here! Very well kept and considering in the middle of a city very quiet and relaxing. Spent time here taking pictures, learning the history and enjoying the fabulous weather we were lucky enough to have during our visit. This is also where Forrest Gump’s bench was which is pretty cool!
