Description:

The Massie Heritage Center should be your first stop in Georgia's first...

The Massie Heritage Center should be your first stop in Georgia's first city! Massie provides the best orientation for your visit with a 3D model of Savannah's entire Historic District, including three laser-lit narratives of the city's history projected onto the model. Massie's six exhibit rooms inside the historic 1856 Greek Revival school house offers visitors the unique opportunity to learn about Savannah's many architectural styles, the earliest inhabitants of the Georgia coast, the historic preservation movement in the city, and what school was like in the 1800s inside our authentic heritage classroom. We are located on beautiful Calhoun Square, Savannah's only architecturally original square, at the corner of Abercorn and Gordon streets. We look forward to seeing you!

Good small museum from HEAT or RAIN

We went here during our tour of Savannah. It was raining and thought it would be a good break. Cool place especially the display on the first floor.

We stopped here the other day and found it just OK. They had some small exhibits on Native Americans --good, architecture --somewhat good, but not enough explanation about terms they used. We did like how they showed examples of many different styles via local photos. Upstairs is a classroom of an old school. It just didn't grab us much, so... More

We stopped in at the Massie Center, since we had it on our list of things to do. The miniature area of Savannah that lights up with different areas, and the school house on the top floor was still in its original state. It was a quick 45 minutes, and wish there was someone there to guide us through it... More

The family visited during our Big 2016 Road Trip. Interesting displays on the history of the school and of Savannah's past.

I am a teacher, so this one of the highlights of my trip. We came across the Massie Heritage Center while on a trolley tour. We got off and went to check it out. There were several exhibits and things you could interact with. I was most excited about the classroom! You could dress up in clothing from that time... More

What a wonderful museum in Savannah to tell the history of the city and the area around Savannah, and stepping back into the public school building. It was fun to ring the principals school bell! This is a part of Savannah history and you should stop here on your Savannah visit.

As a native, I had visited the Massie Museum many years ago, but recently visited to take an out of town visitor. Seeing the Museum was part of the ticket price for our Trolley Tour, and I'm so happy it was! The room sized three-dimensional re-creation of the City of Savannah was truly enlightening because of the ingenious way the... More

We had a free ticket from the tour bus we took, and it was so fun. I believe its $8 a person. You will learn so much. We were the only ones there and was able to really soak it all in. There are even costume you can dress in. Very family friendly.

Loved the school house upstairs. It had a lot of history and some interactive activities. Great place to show kids how school use to be.
