Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Laurel Grove Cemetery was the second cemetery established in Savannah. It has two sections...the south which was primarily used for slaves and the north for everyone else. Both have beautiful monuments but the north section has the most impressive monuments in the cemetery. A number of famous people are buried there. Also, there is a huge section reserved for Confederate veterans. It is very impressive.

We went here to pay respect to Juliette Gordon Low, founder of Girl Scouts. It is a short drive from downtown to the cemetery. This is a very old cemetery with thousands of graves. It was clean and quite peaceful. If you are taking Girl Scouts to Laurel Grove, directions to her resting place are plainly marked along the driveway.
My only regret is that we didn't have more time to wander around a bit and read histories of some of the folks buried here.

This is one of the most beautiful old cemeteries I've ever seen. We came here with a Girl Scout group visiting from out of state to pay our respects at the grave of the Girl Scout found, Juliette Gordon Low, who is buried here in her family plot. I loved all the ironwork in the fencing around the grave sites and the old stone markers. The moss hanging from the trees just adds to the beauty.

This is one of the best cemeteries that I have ever been to. While it is not in the heart of the historic district like Colonial; you definitely should make the couple mile trip out. Old family crypts, plots. Well organized and maintained. Make sure to pick up a map! There is a section for confederate soldiers; many from Gettysburg. I was surprised to learn that crypts and graves were moved from Colonial to this cemetery.

This cemetery is truly breathtaking and far less trespassed than any other tourist attraction in Savannah, which only adds to its charm. I don't know how it has flown under the radar with a history that includes many of Savannah's most noteworthy people. The historic monuments, mausoleums and sculptures are just as stunning as the local favorite, Bonaventure, and the scenery is perfectly picturesque. Laurel Grove feels as though you've broken into a historic vault or temple where sacred ruins and mysteries await. I am thrilled that tours are now available for the first time, ever. Be sure to check out Savannah Georgia's Laurel Grove Cemetery with Shannon Scott Tours. His tour guide, Richard, provides the perfect Savannah experience for anyone looking to understand this beautiful city and its past. He knows the secrets and forgotten tales of Laurel Grove, and he will make the trip worthwhile. The location is practically in the historic downtown area, so it's easily accessible, and it's easy to walk through. Definitely recommend!

Lots of people go to Bonaventure Cemetery, and it is truly lovely, but we discovered this cemetery on a recent Savannah trip and I am completely in love with it. Beautiful architectural details, statues and the ubiquitous Spanish moss.

We learned about the Laurel Grove Cemetery while taking the Old Savannah Tour. We had already visited the Bonaventure Cemetery and wanted to see this lesser known cemetery as well. Upon arrival we were immediately impressed with the beautiful grounds. The roads meander throughout the large expanse and we spent quite a while exploring as much of the place as we could. There is a large section of Confederate soldiers that were killed during the Civil War, as well as a nice monument to their memory. Laurel Grove has a more defined 'creepy factor' which Bonaventure doesn't have, and we loved that feeling. The stones, monuments, crypts, and mausoleums were amazing. The artistry that is represented here is a true thing of beauty. We also enjoyed all of the bird life and various trees. It is also less visited than Bonaventure, so we felt we were the only people there. We were so thankful to learn of Laurel Grove and plan to return someday for another visit. We highly recommend spending time there.

For those interested in cemetery history and scenery, this is the place to go. A large confederate section and many family vaults in various states of decay. Beautiful wrought iron work and the Spanish moss in the trees only adds to the ambience.

A simple want through Laurel Grove North and South will awaken the history of this nation. From the slave burials to the founder of the girl scouts, this location is full of things to see. The entry to the north cemetary is ornate and well marked while the African American section to the south was not. There is a whipping tree located at the center of the south cemetary which still shows lash marks in the bark. An eerie reminder of our history and where we have been.

The founder of Girl Scouts is buried here - with signs that make it easy to find her grave. She designed her own "Celtic Cross" and its customary to bring a small gift to leave for here that is Girl Scout related (e.g. - a SWAP or flower, especially a daisy (her nickname).
A couple of warnings -- this is outside historic Savannah and we saw some kinda "scary" street people loitering nearby (outside). So be cautions and aware. The other warning is about the beautiful "Spanish moss" (which is neither Spanish nor moss... ha ha). It is fun to look at - but don't play with it - as it's often filled with little red bugs that like to BITE! You can certainly touch it briefly and get close to it. But one of my girls (scouts) found a big pile of it and carried it around for a while (wore it like a "stole") and was bitten quite badly. :-/
