This monument has many ruins and a great deal of history. They have a good video on the history of the fort. The Santa Fe Trail goes around and through the site. Also Route 66 is near this area. Nice site to visit.

We were the only people there when we arrived at 9 a.m. After completing the tour and museum it boggles me why more people weren’t there! This is a MUST see! There are even actual wagon ruts on the Santa Fe wagon trail there (which...More

I stopped at Fort Union on my way to Colorado from Santa Fe. This monument is a few miles off the exit at I-25. There is a parking lot here with a visitor center. The trails start behind the visitor center. Fun story, at the...More

Fort Union is an amazing place. Most of the building are in ruins, but the shear size of the operation is impressive. This fort was the supply depot for all the forts in the part of the country which encompassed 4 states. It was a...More

One can not look at Fort Union without trying to imagine it in its heyday. One side of me wishes it was still fully intact but the other side of me appreciates what it left and the way it still survives. This place was a...More

The macadam road that circumvents the site allowed us to have a full visit together. As Easterners, it's tough to grasp the challenges troops faced when stationed in such a remote spot. The film, the rangers insight, then our trek made for a very special...More

If you love history and forts, this is a great place to visit. I’ve driven by the sign on I-25 many times and wanted to stop but never did. Ft. Union is very worth the detour. It’s only 8 miles off the interstate. The landscape...More
