A museum packed full of Monroe historical artifacts! It is self-guided but there are guides available for questions.

Small museum with well presented exhibits and friendly staff. It might be a good idea to start here for an overview before going on to Montpelier. An hour well spent.

This museum is what my spouse calls a "reader's delight" tons of historical facts and history on the walls but not many artifacts. We got in free due to a festival and I was happy - would have been very annoyed had there been a large fee. One exhibit was under renovation so maybe it has been better/will be soon.... More

While not the actual building Monroe practiced law in, we were told one of the threshholds to part of the building is original, so it was very cool to see that piece and walk across it. I also loved the musket on display that has his initials and 1776 carved into the butt of it. How awesome! A headstone from... More

Small museum but learned tons. The docent was extremely informative and helpful. Monroe was involved in so many of the nation's major events from the Revolutionary War, Louisiana Purchase, War of 1812 to the Missouri Compromise. Amazing man and fun to learn in an small insightful museum. A 5-ranking

The museum is not the largest, only four rooms of artifacts, but there is a lot of information on those artifacts presented. A well-informed guide gives you some info in the beginning before you are turned loose to explore the museum on your own. The part I found the most interesting was the battle map of some parts in the... More

We returned to Fredericksburg after being there 2 years ago. James Monroe Museum is one of the attractions we did not get to during our first visit. We had purchased the Timeless Ticket, a great investment if you will be there several days or plan to revisit in the future. You are more so on your own to tour the... More

This is a very interesting museum with an old cemetery right next door to it. The tour guides give a good over-all explanation of the site.

Wonderful small museum created in 1927; admission oinly $6; lots of original artifacts from Pres. Monroe; convenient free street parking right outside; staff helpful. This is a definite DON'T MISS. Spend an hour and learn much.

This is a small museum, with helpful staff and interesting exhibits. If you are a large group you may want to skip it at $5 a head.
