The museum is not large and it is not an historic structure but it was very informative about James Monroe. There are a number of original artifacts and really good displays about his life and career. Monroe is often overshadowed by Jefferson and Monroe but...More

As far as modern Presidential libraries and museums go this is small, but think about the fact that President Monroe was elected our fifth president in 1816 and how much time has past; it’s amazing there are furniture pieces and China and other items available...More

This small museum is rumored to be where Monroe may or may not have had his law office when he worked in Fredericksburg. But the museum has quite a few of his possessions, including his "Monroe doctrine desk", a vest he wore, a chess set,...More

Great museum to go to if you like Monroe, the era, or presidents. The fee was $7 which was just right for what you see. The staff member gave me a brief blurb about and gave advice on how to go about the museum. I...More

The museum has $5 admission for military members. You enter through the garden and into the gift shop. Nice staff. Free curb parking.

This museum is located in the office space used by President Monroe (Visit Washington, D.C. to see his actual home.) The grounds are well kept. The atmosphere is welcoming - as are the occasional events which are available on the museum web.

Did not have this on our weekend plans. Glad we had the visit. So much history for one man. Got a well educated briefing before the self tour. Nice real artifacts. No reproductions. Worth the visit when in town.

This is the original site of James Monroe’s law office, a fine museum. While small, it contained quite a number of interesting pieces, including portraits, artifacts and furniture, including the desk believed to be where He penned the Monroe doctrine. Well worth a visit.

The docent was more than helpful answering questions about President Monroe and his legacy. I was glad to know more about the man and his family, compared to all that he accomplished in his lifetime.
